Ralph Nader running for Presidency

It's pathetic for Democrats to blame Nader when Gore ran a terrible campaign and conceded meekly after probably winning it.

I was thinking of the tune "Show me the way to go home", at least with the top four anyway.

E2A I see what you mean about Tricky Dicky.

#2 Is a dead ringer :D.

A lot of people blame him for Bush winning in 2000, because he split the Democrat vote in what was a VERY tight election.

I think Nader himself makes the point that Bush *didn't* win the election in 2000.

It's probably for the best if he doesn't run, but I think a lot of the Nader voters in the past probably wouldn't have bothered coming out to vote at all if Nader hadn't been on the ticket.

I definitely can't blame him for running in 2000, anyway - since the gap between rich and poor grew much bigger under Clinton, easy to see why people wanted an alternative to voting for more of the same under any of the Republocrat candidates.

as much as I like Mr. Nader the guy has no credibility or self-respect left...it's really too bad

Nader said yesterday that if the Democrats can't win this time with a landslide, even with him participating in the election, they should really fold their tent and slip quietly into the night.

He's doing it to create himself a platform for issues that he's concerned about.

DC, it's too bad you don't think he has any credibility, etc.: he's the closest thing you have to an honest and decent politician in your country.

Sorry, how is he funding himself?:hmm:

Tea and coffee mornings in old ladies' houses.

It's special progressive tea and coffee in that it looks great, smells great, but by the end of the cup you're left thinking it wasn't as great as it should have been.

I don't particularly like the Democratic Party but the're the lesser of two evils imo ... although it's a pretty tough call once bush has gone, for sure ...

regardless of who gets into power though, i don't think we'll see the US fighting another major war any time soon ...

Just bitterness from one of many whining Democrats who think that they have the right to the votes of people who don't actually agree with the vile corporate fuckers.

Your little pals in CWI US were with him the first time around in '00, right?

What's the great Millie line on Nader today, then?

Our little pals in the US are in favour of a progressive third party or independent challenge to the two corporate candidates. At the moment they are arguing that Nader and Cynthia McKinney (the ex-Democrat Congresswoman now seeking the endorsement of the Green Party and of the Reconstruction Party) should run on a joint ticket.

Are the US Greens backing him?

Will he run as a GP candidate?

He got 61% of the vote in the Green primary, but afaik isn`t a member of the GP.

As Matt S alluded to above, if like in 2000, he is running to push the GP as a credible 3rd party alternative then fair enough. I'd support that.

But if not, well there's a big political difference....

I think Cynthia McKinney is the Green candidate...or she's one of them.
