No he's NOT dead!

The chopper crashed near his house! A car crashed near my house last month but I'm not dead!

Yes mayhaps, but that probably wasn't your car that crashed near your house.

e2a: Times is confirming death of Colin & Son :( RIP

e2a x2 Oops I linked the same story as above :o

It seems he'd only just announced that he was quitting full-time driving (link)
Shame to think he was maybe ready to spend more time just enjoying life, then this... :(

I wouldn't trust one of those cornflake packet helicopters if you paid me. They always seem to crash...[/exaggerate mode]

Terrible news. :(

McRae was a great driver. I marshalled on the RAC Rally in 1995, the year he won the world championship: I've never seen driving like it before or since.

He was a superb driver - one of the sport's all-time greats.

RIP Colin. :( :( :(

gutted:(

I for one am fucking gutted.

A nicer bloke you couldn't hope to meet.

A top driver and ambassador for Scotland and the UK.

Gutted for his lovely wife & kids.

Can i be the first person to make a Colin McRash joke?

You wouldn't be. That was his nickname back in the early '90s (well, along with McCrazy), before he'd fully tamed his sheer speed and started driving more tactically, and when Subaru were seriously thinking about sacking him because the cost in repair bills was getting too high. The following year, he was the World Champion...

I can't help but think that the flippancy on this thread is in pretty poor taste. The man's dead, FFS, and his young son with him.

The late, great McRae in full flight:

Every sympathy with his wife and daughter and the rest of his family and friends. Rallying has lost one of its true greats.

I know that was his nackname in the early 90's thats why i mentioned it.

thats fucking sad. A driver with very few peers and a turn of speed unlike any other driver before him. And his son too ! Jesus. :(

Gutted really :( thing is he races around like a madman in a car for years and survives but dies in his helecopter, doesn't add up, lifes unfair :(
RIP Colin and his son
