Ragbone, ragbonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnne

I remember in the seventies/eighties, when I lived on a council estate in Teesside, hearing the rag-and-bone man with his horse, hooves going clip-clop.
I always wondered why we dont see them anymore.

Certainly remember them in my childhood in York.

They were called rag and bone men, but their cry was 'Ragbone! Ragbone!'.

I always thought people from some other parts of the country called them 'totters' - now that was an expression I didn't hear until I was at least in my late 20s!

I was just reading this

"A metal cup acquired by a rag and bone man from Somerset has been revealed to be a pure gold goblet from the 3rd or 4th Century BC, worth up to £500,000."

aaaw, rag-n-bone  uesd to cop a lift on the cart of the old fella who went round the streets when i was a kid. he didnt mind so long as we bought some sugar lumps for his horse

my mum used to threaten to give us away to him when we missed behaved tho :(
