Yeah, definitely a grower.
That's not code for 'it's shit but I've listened to it loads and now I don't mind'
It means 'actually does have tons of subtlety and layers and excellent musicianship'
That was me, anyway :)

or rather "has tons of subtlety and layers and excellent musicianship that we've all heard before ad nauseam'

I thought the reviews said this was a brave change of direction ffs.

"Reckoner" might as well be a parody.

I like it. I wasn't really expecting to like it, but I do. I found it quite an immediate album actually, its fairly easy going, but its nice, not to say that it lacks depth, but its not exactly a complicated work. And I don't think they're trying to be too clever which is refreshing.

Man, and I thought that classical fans were the only ones to get uppity about bitrates...great album, sounds fine through a home system and the iPod and quite frankly I fail to see what the ball aching is about - were the fans who bought it aware that it was 160? IF not, possibly slightly dodge, if so people made their own choice...

the nature of Radiohead fans, who probably are more likely to crave sound quality etc,

I don't think this is true. One of the reasons Radiohead are so wildly successful is that they have achieved a remarkable level of mainstram audience success, and the vast bulk of the record buying public really don't give 2 shits about such things - they listen for melody & tunes, not whether or not they can here one specific sound effect and bang on about production etc.

don't think they told you it was 160 until you'd preordered it (unless iot was somewhere on the website that I didn't read)

Weird Fishes and All I Need are the only one doing for me tbh.

Maybe Videotape, at best.
That 'weird fishes' track is astonishing.

I'm enjoying the album more and more.

Well, I've got around to downloading it & popped it on a CD for my car stereo (which is 8 speakers worth of top of the range Blaupunkt loveliness kindly installed by the classical pianist who previously owned the car, that doesnt suffer shit mp3's gladly).

I was a bit skeptical about 160, but it sounds really fine.

I'm liking the album a lot too.

That's what I'm kind of thinking.. radiohead on autopilot. Never mind.

mmm, both my downloaded copies of In Rainbows have vanished from my computer (the folder is empty), are they on auto-delete after a period of time or something?

None of my other music has disappeared.

how weird. did you pay for them? maybe they've set all the ones that were downloaded for free to self-destruct.

having said that, i didn't pay a penny for mine, downloaded from them, and it's still on my ipod.

i'm not in the habit of downloading entire albums for free, and i regularly pay for albums. i've bought two in the last two days. but i wanted to test radiohead's idea by paying nothing. it felt like the right thing to do.

I paid £5 for mine! :( bugger... (I dowloaded it and had one copy on my hard disk and another on my portable drive)

Good excuse to buy the cd, I suppose. I do have all their other albums, and I quite like this one anyway, so it's the sensible thing to do.

Still I'm wondering, can they automagically make tracks self destruct like that to make people buy the cd?

No they can't automagically destruct like that. something weird has happened.

I thought so, but it was kinda exciting to think they could do that :D

Anyway, good news, It turns out that I also have a copy on my work 'puter, which I've just checked - and that's fine :) So, I might as well listen to it now ;)

Not a big Radiohead fan but this CD is a grower and great. Nude sends shivers, I am surprised and love the different layers. No one else is making music like this.
