Here we go then - 10 'superstar' djs going head to head for your approval... you've got 2 weeks to listen and vote.

The mixes will also be playing on the urban radio station for the next few weeks, so have a listen on there if you can't be bothered downloading them...

The mixes are:

1: Dirty Covers and desperate measures

It seems odd in the days when artists who have only ever had a minor hit live in the lap of luxury, that once upon a time even internationally famous artists, (some the leading exponents in their genre) were forced to try just about anything (often against their better judgement)to attempt to regain a crumb of commercial success.
In the late 60s/early 70s many established r&b/ blues artists struggled to sell records (ironically as derivative rock bands flourished) so were forced to try their hand at psych/ funk/ soul/ country/ jazz with pretty interesting (if not occasionally chaotic) results.

2: Mashup

Starts off with a bit of mashed up pop music, turns into some heavy jungle bizzness, and then chills the fuck out and goes into some nice dubstep to finish off

3: Smoked out beats to breakbeat treats

4: Post-Ambient Fuzz

An exquisite journey through the realms of postambient-neominimal-dronestep-fuzzcore

5: 39 Minutes Without Hardcore

Taking you through dubstep, hip-hop and techno with glee, this one gets you nodding. Slap it on and feel the bass, bounce yourself, wobble your bones and enjoy!

6: The Magnificent Seven-Inch

A magnificent mixture of marvellous seven inch singles, from my box of delights. Gasp at the gorgeous music, sigh at the sweet sweet lyrics and let your emotions roll away on an express train ride of excitement, with old acquaintances and friends for company

7: "War and Peace Mix"

...a back to 2001 DnB Odyssey

8: a little bit of this, a little bit of that

It starts with banjos and ends with skanking. You'll just have to listen to see where it goes inbetween. Done in one take. Strictly vinyl. Strictly shonky!

9: Sunburned Teeth

Reverb, giddy & lush

10: Playback: Funky Bollywood

a mash-up of hindi pop with funk, soul, R&B, rock & roll, jazz... the recording quality isn't always brilliant, which is a combination of indian vinyl pressing being a bit less than perfect and the records themselves sometimes being in crappy condition - but the excellence of the songs always shines through though.

Once we have a winner, the identities of the dj's will be revealedd!

*mix two ('Mashup') is currently missing due to a techinicality - the dj has been contacted and will be resupplying his or her mix asap!

*just to bump this thread, above the other November listing - this is the more uptodate one... I'll label these better next time!

have just checked and you haven't even made the effort to vote for a mix and yet you're moaning about the music you're getting thru the playlist?

laughable

I do always wonder why u75 radio is such a fucking failure. people put the effort in every time it is launched but despite having hundreds of users it is always ignored

why do we have to vote for a winner? life isn't a game show

can't we just listen to the music and appreciate them all equally?

you don't have to, i was just a bit annoyed with you moaning about being bored with what was on the radio, when 10 people had taken the time to make some mixes under the guise of a bit-of-fun compo and no-one seems to be taking much interest is all.

moral of the story? don't post when you've just got in @ 2 in the morning with a skin-full of booze on board :)

Possibly because people are busy with real life, y'know, Hypothetical Humphrey listening to Jas and Justin bray about their latest phones from the office, whilst eating gaspachio that Susan just whipped up out of nothing (the little miracle worker!) and pondering whether to trade in the Range Rover for something more economical (Y'know, to save the world, but also put a few pennies and a bit of carbon guilt aside for that trip to Machu Pichu).

They can look at the internet and still be part of the conversation, but to listen to it too would cut them off from the real world... How would they here baby Ezekiel cry over the refined hubhub for example?

No time for dnb in the hurly burly world of urban living it seems.
