Radical feminist organising

And why do you think that might be? What even is a 'radical' Feminist?

and do you do anything to help?

A radical feminist is one not constrained by the conventions of the status quo?

Sometimes, it depends. Mostly it is not my priority to be 'nice and inclusive' - sometimes a political position has to be outlined and promoted against critics and nay sayers:D

Well the Womens meeting went well. It will be the first monday of every month.

Had an email from a man asking if he could attend.......which opened up much discussion. Anyway he has started a Mens group - first discussion about marriage as a contract + other politics. His link

The women from the Crossroads Women's Centre in KT Rd are not feminists. As I recall they regard the feminist movement's anti-male stance as a divisive factor in the class struggle. The women at the CWC work closely with men; however, they do not allow men to run the agenda.

Not sure the York Lesbian Arts Festival is especially feminist? Though, funnily enough, it is woman centered.........

It's important to have an exclamation mark as part of the name of any good campaigning group or publication.

Incite!

Outrage!

The sooner Mayday becomes Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! the better.

Wow you have offers of funding before you have even had an open meeting! I need bsuiness development tips from you and yours.
2nd June 3.30-5.30
We are setting up a womans group . Starts monday so we will have to wait and see how many turn up. I have had emails from D of H , NHS, Mind and Wing all offering funding. Am just reading a gov paper 'Women in the Mainstream' and it seems they have noticed a lot of women suffering from a multiplicity of problems...not just violence. Our gov system is not geared up for coping with women going throo difficult times. In fact the DWP, Local authorities can make things worse. Am hoping we can get a bit political but will have to wait and see.

Its at The Old bakery, Lower Richmond Road, SW14 7Hj. (behind the LBRUT training Centre, opposite the brewery playing fields.) 419 bus route.

Free tea, coffee, sandwiches + cake. Just for a chat + to plan for outings ,trips, visits + events.

The first Monday of every Month to start with but will increase once we get more funding.

I think orgainising on seperate gender lines is a complete mistake. :)

Michel Foucault touched upon the subject of feminism + wrote about it being marginilized. He also wrote that the oppressed create their own languages so sometimes I like to break away from the expected norms..................+ experiment in writing.

Would this be the same Foucault that elevated himself to the global intellectual elite by writing numerous well-received books in the language of the powerful?

No, intellectual is not the language of the powerful. The working class knew that knowledge is power in the early days - they said so on the miners banners.:p

So why do the oppressed supposedly create their own languages, in the opinion of Foucault?

I agree that the oppressed do create their own language, and there is nothing wrong with that. The social spaces where resistance is created, shared and distributed are vital. A description of all this in James C. Scott -"Domination and the arts of Resistance" is vital reading, and something I am sure Foucault would have approved of.
