R. Kelly - more allegations of sexual misconduct from underage women

I think white middle class liberals tend to allow awful behaviour in black men they wouldn't accept in white men. Which obviously is a form of prejudice on itself.

We have known about R.Kelly for years being a horrible bastard.
For example the Guardian love Kendrick Lamar, but he refers to women as Bitches in a high percentage of his songs. They'd never stand for that behaviour from Robin Thicke for example (they fucking hate Robin Thicke).

What?? Are you seriously suggesting that he got away with it because he's a black man?? In America?

If you want to draw any conclusions about how he got away with it based on skin colour, I'd be more inclined to look at the skin colour of his victims.

This will go well.

No I'm just saying amongst white middle class liberals, not the rest of us

I don't see that at all, ever. Also, Thicke wrote an anthem for rape culture, which is a bit more troublesome than saying bitch.

Either way though, who gives a fuck what the Guardian has to say

killer b I would say both played a role :(

Actually it was written by Pharrell Williams. Thicke's name went on the product and he copped it for it

Perhaps, but it's not as if there isn't ample recent examples in the news of men abusing and exploiting women of all races and backgrounds, openly, for decades. I don't think people didn't care because they're black. They didn't care because they're women.

I think (though of course it's hard to evidence) that their colour compounded the blind eye turning. There are ample examples of black people being valued less than white people too.

I can recall years ago when Gorgeous George Galloway was infamously in Big Brother.

Dennis Rodman was acting the twat, and George rounded on the others saying "You are only letting him get away with this behaviour cos he's black. If he was white you'd have pulled him up ages ago" or words to that effect.
It's an expectation that Black men will act in a certain way and allowances are made, and it's all total bollocks.

The majority of victims of the recent child exploitation gangs in the uk are white (and their perpetrators generally not so). The girls were ignored, dismissed, disbelieved, because they were girls. Not nice girls doing what nice girls are supposed to do.

I've said that I think their (R Kelly's victims) gender was relevant too. I just don't think it was the only barrier to their being helped.

I'm sure this is true, but the key aspect is their gender.
Which aspect are you saying is key? Gender key to her being the target of abuse
I'm sure this is true, but the key aspect is their gender.

Mind you, this guy seems to get away with murdering his young black male sexual partners... Another Black Man Has Died in the Home of Democratic Donor Ed Buck
It is true, I'm afraid.
I think what you're saying is that the victims gender is the key aspect to them being targeted and yes obviously they fit the gender preferences of the abuser. However what I am trying to add, is that the race of the victims does play a role in accounting for the cover-up/lack of attention, protection or conscience for the people allowing it to happen for all these years.
This was all in response to D'wards comment that he may have gotten away from it because he was a black man, when its far more plausible that he got away with it because he was a powerful man and they were powerless black girls; who face greater barriers to support, are less likely to report, less likely to be believed and are poorly treated by the police, the courts and the media.
There are extensive studies on this, we should all read them.

I honestly don't see a comparison with the Rochdale stuff (which was not itself representative of child exploitation in general) not least because he is a lone abuser (with more power and influence than most abusers) rather than a group of abusers and the dynamics of group abuse is quite different and complex.

Another aspect is that in the UK we live in a post Yewtree/Savile environment, and we are sensitive to the appalling behaviour of celebrity sex offenders now - as well as the shit powerful men can get away with for decades.

America is only having this moment of late

The guy who plays Greyworm, Jacob Anderson, on Game of Thrones is a rapper and was on Romesh Ranganathan's hip hop podcast a few months ago.
He pointed out that Kanye West wore a MAGA hat and was suddenly a persona non grata in hip hop circles. But that everyone knows R Kelly was keeping a harem of underage girls and yet Ignition remix is still getting played every night at every hip hop club and no one gives a fuck. This was a long time before the documentary.

Why is this?
