Quorn Roast

Good to finally see some other quorn lovers-I can finally come clean:cool:
Qourn roast is lovely marinated in red wine for a while before serving and is ace cold with apple sauce and stuffing in bap the next day. My cat hates meat and will only eat quorn and cat biscuits:confused:
Asda always seem to have quorn roast for cheap btw...

How do you marinade it? Take it out of the plastic wrapping to cook presumably? I'm mega overly cautious when it comes to prepping food...

Cook it for normal time or just under then take out of wrapping, slice, pop in dish containing some red wine and either let set or pop under grill for a bit:cool:

I'm a vetetable alien, but I'm not keen on Quorn, or any fake meat, really. Don't see the point. That said, I eat it at the mother-in-law's, because she doesn't understand what else to do.

I love quorn in most of its forms and use it alot. Then again, I like TVP chunks, so maybe I'm a weirdo :) Only problem with quorn is it contains egg, so it's off the menu for vegans (which I'm not.) Anyone know why they don't have quorn in America? I was surprised to find frozen TVP pieces there though - no doubt GM though.

Jesus, TVP.

Takes me back :D

Stopped eating meat in 1982  and in those days it was TVP or sosmix, that was it.

Unless you could find a can of braised gluten.

Veggie kids these days don't know they're born, grumble grumble

I still get TVP from local hippie shop-tis about 50p for huge bag and as a freak, like it mixed and microwaved with super noodles and extra water and stock for about five minutes in a mixing bowl until becomes a huge thin noodly soup. Only ever when I have a bad bad hangover but it does seem to do the trick.
It does look like dog food though.

Eek....the very thought of black pudding makes me feel queasy. Can't begin to think what veggie one would be like!

As a veggie for most of my life who has never tried or wanted to try black pudding, I was dubious but it was reduced. Made with pearl barley and sort of slimy and gritty but actually quite nice. Can see how I'm not really selling it to you though

I likes Quorn in all its varieties. But is it *bad* for you? I eat it 3 or 4 times a week, and I'm a bit worried about flavourings and the like. What's it got in it?

What's in it is some funny stuff they claim to be mushroom based.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quorn#Controversy

Apparently, it is more akin to athletes foot fungus than actual mushroom but I still like it:cool: What gets me is the price-fucking nearly two quid or more for a few strips of fungus when you can buy half a pig for the same price if you are a meat eater-I have it as a treat or when its on offer-like the taste and texture and it is low calorie as well-good for lazy cooking

It's low fat and think has a fair bit of protein in it so would not be too concerned-some people have funny reactions to it though. Just seen quorn 'pork' pie on Ocado!

I'm not bothered that it's made out of fungus. I'm more concerned about additives. Presumably it starts off with a fairly neutral flavour, so what do they add to make it taste like chicken, beef, fish, etc? I think I can guess.

It's boring otherwise! Is nice to have other flavours once in a while-newsflash-just had some quorn pork pie-absolutely lovely-never liked pork pies when i ate meat but this is really juicy and soft and does taste like pork:cool:

There is a whole new world of Quorn opening up to me! have seen the roast, but never tried it - will now. Didn't know about the scotch eggs and pork pies. Quite like the Quorn Cornish pasties, but they should have called them Quornish pasties!

The Quornish pasties are one of the only quorn things I am not keen on as far too obsessed with cheese and onion. The roast is best value by far of all the quorn stuff-about three quid but you can get so much off it. Really soaks up the gravy (or wine!) as well.

!! I have to try this...though it's the jelly bits that I always used to like and I'm not sure they'd be able to replicate that part of them....

We call the other products quicken, quacon, qurkey, quoast and quasages (though 'quince' doesn't quite work).

There is no jelly involved-but I always hated the jelly...How about a bit of apple sauce instead? I am very impressed with them-Holland and Barret do a veggie pork pie, maybe with jelly but is a cumbersome heavy thing bereft of joy or light.

Sound like characters in a Sci-fi:hmm: Mind you, quorn is sort of space-age-apparently developed to feed the starving cheaply in times of war by the government.

I will investigate and report back :D
