Quorn Roast

Is fucking brilliant. Brilliant as a roast, brilliant in sandwiches. I notice that supplies dwindle away at this time of year though and I wanted to say "what balls!"

Anyone else a fan? I realise I haven't left much scope for discussion here. Anyone got any Quorn Roast related anecdotes? Call me a twat?

I love quorn in most of its forms and use it alot. Then again, I like TVP chunks, so maybe I'm a weirdo :) Only problem with quorn is it contains egg, so it's off the menu for vegans (which I'm not.) Anyone know why they don't have quorn in America? I was surprised to find frozen TVP pieces there though - no doubt GM though.

I love it and thinking about having one on Sunday...I also buy the one from Realate (think that's the spelling) that has sage n onion stuffing in it...in fact I prefer that one to the quorn one.

I'm a vegematarian and I rarely bother with quorn. It became pretty pointless once I learnt to cook. Or at least to get others to cook for me.

What's added to a quorn roast so it isn't just a lump of quorn?

I like the taste of quorn, so I don't see it as a lazy way of vegetarian cooking – I might use chickpeas in a curry, or I might use quorn, it depends what taste/texture I want. I like it in my spag bog, and my chilli too.

I've had a quorn roast before, and it's not bad. I'm not a fan of the old nut roast, and sometimes I want to have a 'traditional' roast dinner, and that's where a quorn roast comes in. Plus, it's great in sarnies afterwards when cold, with your left over stuffing, just like a real roast dinner.

Are there different flavours, like Quorn roast beef, or Quorn roast duck?

I so want some of this!

Can someone tell me what it actually is - is it just a massive lump of quorn or has it got stuff in it and whatnot?

Quorn's website describes a Turkey roast. The photograph of the colour and texture takes a bit of believing though. They also report on satisfied customers praising it for next day sandwiches.

Me I just buy the Quorn mince. It makes the best spag bol in the world where you can taste the herbs and spices better than in a meat one. I don't go in for 'value added' foods.

Irrc the chicken style one is a big lump of quorn. The idea being that you 'carve' it.

I see that they now do a vegetable roast which sounds a bit more apetising imo (although I'd personally rather make it myself) :)

I sometimes get queasy when they make "meat substitutes" look just a bit too much like meat. But, quorn is easy to do stuff with.

Lately, I've been seriously into edamame (baby soya beans) which I've been using in place of chick peas or other kinds of beans. Tescraps has bags of the stuff on sale for about a quid this week. Birds Eye does them frozen, too. Realeat I think do the best ones frozen, but since I moved, I ain't got a decent Health Food shop near me.

Viva la soya bean!

You know, it is possible to be a good cook with a varied repertoire that just happens to include quorn.

I'm not sure anything's added, but it kinda works anyway (unless you hate quorn or think that avoiding quorn makes you a superior cook).

Good to finally see some other quorn lovers-I can finally come clean:cool:
Qourn roast is lovely marinated in red wine for a while before serving and is ace cold with apple sauce and stuffing in bap the next day. My cat hates meat and will only eat quorn and cat biscuits:confused:
Asda always seem to have quorn roast for cheap btw...

Don't like using meat substitutes much, but the Realeat (or whatever they are) pies are really good. Sainsbury's did them for a bit but have now stopped. Anyone know of anywhere around the Brixton area or a chain which sells them?
