I do a bit of brewing - believe me, I am becoming quite skilled in the "sterile enough" thing - I've just opened a bottle of homebrew that's been in for a bit over a year (it's one I'd forgotten about). Perfectly fresh, and actually rather nicely matured.

"reasonably sterile" is achievable. At a price (in terms of effort and hassle)
