when i look at cv's to people i need to hire in the media (i hire reserachers/journos now and then for docs etc) a media studies degree is a big negative. they can get back in the good books with serious extra curricular activities like working at local paper/radio/tv etc. in other words showing aptitude and initiative for pushing themselves within the industry...
pk's advice is sound on this too. a degree can be good though especially if it's a specialisation of a kind of journalistic media - like having a good economics degree for politics/business journalism, or health relation academe for health related journalism etc...
