Anyone remember King?

Responsible for one of the many fine hair crimes of the '80's. :)

Are you trying to commit mass-murder through laughter? :D

Tell me about it. As a 15 year old metalhead, I would have passed out with shock if you'd told me Rob Halford was gay. I mean look at him; not a gay bone in his body obviously (well not at the moment the picture was taken anyway).

As for the coming out/background thing, Freddie simply didn't see it as anyones business - in spite of the flamboyant on stage antics he was a very private person.

A friend was on holiday in Tanzania recently, (formerly Zanzibar) and there are lots of "Freddie Mercury" bars etc, despite male homosexuality still being illegal in the country (A law inherited from the British rule I think).

You think that's bad. I was in my late teens when someone told me The Village People were gay. I genuinely had no idea. :o

Really? That makes me feel better. I thought my Gaydar was completed fucked.

well, the four straight guys were basically playing at being gay for their entire career, so your Gaydar was a bit iffy, i think....

edit: or SUPER fine-tuned so it could spot faux-gay and disregard it :)

I built a small radio transmitter in 1975. The only thing it could transmit was 'Killer Queen' from a Phillips N202 cassette player. In a sexy leather handbag.
It worked for about 3 kms. and overode ITV 405 line transmissions.

It was 1999 before I realised FM was gay. I think he was dead by then.

He was very popular in the East End. On account of being a trained opera singer.

As a 15yr old mettaler myself, along with all my mates, we were in absolutely no doubt that Halford was gay - didn't stop us enjoying them & their concerts one bit!

Same for Queen. I doubt anybody doubted or cared which way Mercury swung. However, one look at the cover of Sheer Heart Attack probably convinced us.

Maybe we were odd, maybe because a couple of our circle were gay or maybe as outcasts in a world of small-minded owners of Vivas, Capris, Kickers & disco pants, we had a wider outlook but really, it was no big thing. :)

I used to get the piss ripped out of me at school coz I was a Queen fan.I "must be gay" if I liked them.lol. I was quite surprised when Halford came out though.

i did my english talk for gcse english about queen.

the first question from the floor afterwards was 'was freddie gay?', which i answered as best i could. the second question, predictably, was 'killer b, are you gay?'

:D

If it took me 'til '99 to work out they/he was /were gay, it might imply that some people are rather more interested in such things than I am in in Icelandic literature and Caesium vapour ion discharge.

Some people have dash't odd hobbies;)
