Putting long hair up?

I wouldn't say mine was really really long, bottom of my shoulder blades. It's layered all through though, it'd be far too heavy otherwise. You can really notice the layers though.

About the same as mine then but eva wants waist length hair.

Mine was never thick in the first place.

My friend's in her 50s and she's got big fat hair.

Mind you, she lost it all when she had chemo and for once I had more hair than her. It's grown back now though

I used to long for finer hair and less of it! Grass is always greener, eh? In the end, we all just have to make the best of what we have. My hair costs a bloody fortune to maintain.

Finer hair's no good, not even in the slightest bit of breeze - you end up looking like a scarecrow

My daughter has waist-length hair, and often wears it up. Styles we use: two french plaits; single French plait; just the sides plaited and then plaited together at the back, with the rest left down; the sides put into a ponytail relatively high on the head (but not so high as to be a pineapple), the rest of the hair in one ponytail, and the two joined (I'm not describing this very well); two low-down ponytails; multiple French plaits - a bit like cornrowing; simple buns. Her hair's quite thin, though, so she can wear it down without it feeling heavy or needing layers.

An old friend of mine had really long hair that she'd plait and then somehow wind round her head. It looked really cool, but I really can't work out how to do it.

Cesare, your hair does look lovely and rich-coloured.

That link's ace Madusa - I'm going to try some of hers when I get my hair cut. It's too bloody long at the moment! And I might practise the french plait thing, it's really pretty.

Mine's down my back, Eva and pretty thick - I put it up with a chopstick quite a lot. You could use kirby grips on the layers if they flew out? It's nothing fancy but if I put it up really high on my head it can look quite interesting.....

Dunno if that will cause you pain though..

I used to wear it in that Bjork hairstyle from the 90s :D the one where she put it all up into knots all over her head.....might look a bit dated now though :)

This is how cesare really wears her hair

Cesare how do you get such shiny hair?

I use Lush conditioners, once a fortnight for about two hours, but its never that shiny...

I wash it twice a week. One shampoo with Head and Shoulders, then straight afterwards with Paul Mitchell awapuhi shampoo. Conditioner wise, I just put the leave-in Paul Mitchell one in. Occasionally I use a wella one that rinses out, but I only leave it on for enough time to massage it on the ends. It's dyed to fuck. My natural colour is 90% grey at the front and 45% grey at the back. Colour treatment shampoos and conditioners make my scalp itch like fury, so I don't use em.

The only thing that I'm starting to notice as it gets longer, is that it gets tangled more easily.

I wish I could wash my hair twice a week. I've tried to cut down the amount of washes but it just ends up greasy and manky looking after a couple of days. :(

This woman came to work with us for a bit and she had almost white blonde hair down to her waist - it looked like a curtain, really lovely. She had thick rimmed glasses and wore a lot of black.

My mother always gave me bowl haircuts when I was a kid and all I ever wanted was long hair so Im going to go for it now and see what happens. Its about down to my nipples atm. :D

I bet the chopstick looked good.... :hmm: I did have some stick things when I was travelling but someone nicked them.

I also used to do a think where I combed the front forwards and then divided it into about ten tiny ponytails which I wound back and secured with teeth grips (iyswim!) and then made a big bun on the back with one of those donut thinsg...... But having a small head and quite big bum :D I have to make sure I dont make my head too small.

I was so inspired by the Japanese women during the movie I went into the bedroom and put on red lipstick and had a go at the hairstyles!

For those with straight or finer hair, I bet you can wash and wear tho....that must be good.....I either look like a bush or straighten which I resent....burning a part of my body for fashion.

I had to persist a bit with that tbh. My skin incl scalp react quite badly to too much detergent/products & washing it more made it worse not better. That time when I had to wear it back for work was a blessing in disguise. That initial oily/mankiness doesn't notice as much in a french pleat, and after a while of not washing it as much, the oiliness sort of stopped. Twas a bit like the natural balance sorted itself out if you see what I mean.

Oh yeah, I very rarely blow dry it either.

Conditioner wise, I just put the leave-in Paul Mitchell one in.

Interesting.....what about brushing it afterwards? With the conditioner in?

I only ever comb or brush my hair in the bath with half a bottle of conditioner on it. Well thats if I am letting it curl. If I use a hot brush I can comb it dry. Never brush it tho, too thick. :( I get dreadlocks like you say, and god help me when I have a marathon session in bed!

Its easier to do things with it when its not really clean eh...

Maybe your hair is in good nick because you dont dry it? I generally always dry it but since I gave up hot brushing it the condition is much better...

What I've found really helps with that is conditioning twice each time you wash your hair. It's like the first conditioning gets most of the tangles out, giving you access to the rest of the hair for the second conditioning. Just condition it once, and you don't get to all the hair. Or, at least, that's my theory on why it works, because it really does work.

My hair's more like a baby's. In fact, I've seen babies with thicker hair than mine :D

I had no hair to speak of until I was about two, then I was a bald by my mid/late 20s. So I think cesare asking me to take a photo of her hair was a bit tactless, tbh. :(

*shuffles off thread with head bowed*

Normally, when I get out of the shower/bath, I wrap it in one of those microfibre towels (I don't know the right name for them, the super absorbant light ones) which soaks up most of the wetness like a sponge. Then I put about a 20p sized blob of leave-in conditioner on the ends, then I brush it through and leave it to dry. I don't do anything more than that usually. If I have to blowdry it, I spray it with Paul Mitchell Heat Seal first. Yep, I do like the Paul Mitchell stuff :D

Lolz @ Minnie and button :D

I like Paul Mitchell stuff. Haven't used it for years though.

Shame on your cesare.

Can you take a piccy of button's head?

Actually, Eva - that YouTube tutorial woman might be a help, even if you're not after retro hairdos she demonstrates some nice techniques for putting hair up. I really like the Rosie the Riveter one - she shows you how to pin a high pony up in all these curls and that would stop the weight of your hair dragging your head back from one point.

she's inspired me :D cheers madusa

When my hair was waist-length (and it's also very thick and heavy), I could only ever do french plait or ordinary ones. A ponytail hurt. I did sometimes do princess leia when I went out to parties :o

I do like the fact that I can put it up with a biro which is what I do at work.

Have you also thought about those claw clips? Not the long ones like cesare is wearing (and I agree that cesare's hair is super shiny ) but round ones. They are the only thing that holds my hair up when it's long and you can do a bun thing. Also I used to twist mine and hold it up with a big clip.

Bit like this but less bridal :D
