I informed of my understanding and experience of the situation and asked a question (I thought politics also included a learning process and wasn't merely a statement of entrenched opinions guess I may have been mistaken), my opinion of Putin is largely negative BUT I see no external (or for that matter internal) solution to the problem. My question and it was a serious question was what should be done and seeing as you are so very much more politically aware than I am, I was hoping for an answer.
I don't think I have advocated external interference. Why are you putting words in my mouth?
My basis for the dislike of Putin is:
(1) ex-KGB.
(2) Gradual erosion of the separation of powers, direct appointment of regional governors, bringing back things like the old "early voting" system allowing easy fiddling of votes, massive re-arming at a time when poverty is increasing in his country, political prosecutions and no doubt more than tangential involvement in assassinations (KGB stylee)
(3) He doesn't smoke or drink. Very dodgy.
OP comes on her waving the flag for Putin, citing approval ratings as the be-all and end-all. Well fuck assessing his worth simply on approval ratings. And economic up-turns? Bugger all to do with him and more to do with the huge increase in oil revenue.

A total strategic failure, in terms of potential for Russian development - not only economically but also socially and politically! One step forward, seven steps backwards, to amplify Lenin's point about the Russian tango...
true it aint perfect there and there are some very dodgy things that go on in the shadow of Putin, BUT the people are behind him so who are we to lecture them on what they should or should not be doing? I would see this very differently if he was clinging on to power in the face of popular dissent.
