Pumpkin soup anyone?

Have you ever grown one at all? It's easier to get them massive than it is to keep them small.

I think it has been a very good year for pumpkins. the farmshop up the road had one that had to be carted around in a wheel barrow and they claim they did nothing special to them

It is a reasonably big pumpkin... but pumpkins are usually are quite big iyswim (I was more taking the piss out of the expressions of shock rather than the original post tbh :D)

Yep. When a pumpking grows it will produce lots of flowers. With a lot of care you can get everyone of those flowers to turn into a pumpkin. This is what I presume commercial growers would do, to get as much yield from each plant. However the more pumpkins the plant produces the smaller they will be.
If you grow your own it's unlikely you'd sucessfully polinate every flower, so you'll get less, but bigger fruit. If you don't really care for your plant at all, but by chance it gets polinated, the chances are you'd end up with a massive pumpkin :)
