I like Chaplin. (Well, not Limelight. Nobody likes Limelight).charlie chaplin is hopelessly dated, but of its time was cinematography genius.
so of course it matters how old it is

i dont find charlie chaplin hopelessly dated. I find him cool and fashionable. In fact, one of my heroes a certain mr pete doherty bases his entire image on him....

True ROmance is a vastly superior film.
Who, exactly, has "copied" Chaplin (and please don't say "Pete has")?Charlie Chaplin is timeless IMO. thats why he is copied over and over again for many reasons....
The Graduate isn't dated. The cinematography may be a bit "period", but the theme and the characters (except for Anne Bancroft's hairdo) overcome that.what about stuff that is really good and hopelessly dated though, like The Graduate?

What do people think of Jackie Brown? Love it myself![]()
The opening titles are great with 110th street playing and Greer going down that travelator. After that it's a great big shit sandwich.

The Graduate is a bit dated, like say for instance Benjamin wants to get the daughter Elaine to have blood tests before they get married. In fact he proposes to her after they kiss! And the kiss doesnt even have tongues....lol And Elaine's engagement to the medical student Carl is a bit of a rich-family-in-the 60's set up. Then theres the reason Mrs Robinson even married Elaines father in the first place - because she was pregnant...it is totally dated socially, for lots of reasons (cool style though).![]()

Ah, he didn't "copy" Chaplin, he impersonated him.Robert Downey Jr has. In fact, he pretty much stole his whole routine for some film he made back in the nineties.

with some of this....
