Psst - anyone want to score some petrol or diesel? (Fuel shortages Sept. 2021 onwards).

I’ve just listened to the guys rugby podcast and he has expanded on it a bit and appears to be genuine. Interestingly he mentioned that one of the haulage companies in the fuel industry has been losing drivers heavily due to poor working conditions and poor treatment of the employees. No surprise to anyone.
Suppose it's plausible. I do vaguely remember a news report during some fuel shortage 20 years ago or more where a driver had filled pots and pans with petrol, having got the tank itself brim full.

Teaboy as mentionned above do look at one day (available on an hourly basis actually) insurance as it might (or might not) be cheaper than adding you to your dad insurance policy.

Now clearly looking at plan C for my planned moves this week (that's public transport)

Last time round there was at least one guy who managed to burn his house down storing petrol in containers inside. Proper idiocy.

Anyway, I’m two days into ten days of isolation so not going anywhere, it’ll be all sorted by the time I come back out, right? We usually only drive about 30 miles a week and still have half a tank of diesel I think.

So far I've seen 2 non-league mid week games called off due to the fuel shortage - Whitehawk's game against Burgess Hill and Kingstonians v Horsham.

This is getting effing ridiculous.

There's a few more games cancelled, including Worthing against Merstham, which is understandable as all 12 filling stations in the borough are out of fuel.

There was a video on twitter of a woman putting petrol into one of those 2 litre disposable water bottles. Petrol will dissolve low grade plastics which is why petrol cans are made out of special strong stuff so she is clearly a leading candidate.

I've seen a few videos of fights on forecourts, but the Mirror has a video of one guy waving around what looks like a knife, when he gets in front of the car & lends on the bonnet, the driver starts driving forward, resulting in the guy starting to kick the car.

Reminds me of the old saying about us being just three hot meals from complete anarchy.

I came back from Wales yesterday and the service station this side of Bristol let me buy £45. I wasn't expecting it, its odd when the pump slows down and then then stops, rather than the click when its detects a full tank. That was enough to get me home though.

But from Reading on, signs saying HGV fuel only and none of the stations I passed going through London were open. So its a total catastrophe for key worker and the people they serve,

John Christopher's book the Death of Grass is about this. After reading it you are left feeling its real. A large mass of people can overwhelm anything in seconds.

I can remember when if you tried to fill anything other than a proper petrol can, the kiosk would shut off the pump, and the speaker would tell you to desist.

When coming home on leave from Germany, Kamp Lintford was the last filling station you could use your petrol coupons. You left there with a full tank, 40l in petrol cans, and five gallons in a plastic meths container, which topped your tank outside Calais. Left the plastic can at the bottom of the bank at the layby, and picked it up on the way back.

Thanks but my dad has just sorted it by sticking me on his insurance for a week, I doubt it cost much and it didn't cost me anything.

I'll be setting off this evening and hoping to find some fuel at a motorway service station en-route. My biggest concern is getting to my parents village and not having enough fuel to reach a petrol station that has fuel after that.

Oh well. I don't have much choice really.

Also Mrs Smiles left for the 5 mile drive to Mini Smiles school this morning and came back with him in tow, 2 hours later, saying the traffic was too bad. Didn't help that she was late leavinf but still......

I topped up at Asda this morning but it stopped filling when it reached £30.00. I don't know if the petrol had run out or if there was a limit on how much each customer could buy, but it's enough to get about for a few days at least.

I think a lot of garages are doing the £30 limit thing.

It seems to have eased a lot here (West and South Cardiff). Some queues but not lengthy ones and nowhere seems closed. We're supposed to be going to the Peak District and back at the weekend which should be more than doable on a full tank (which I have) but let's pray for no queuing on the M5 and M42 on the way up.

In fact written by John Christopher (used to be a pedant but could never quite agree a precise definition).

A good book irrespective of who wrote it.
