Psst - anyone want to score some petrol or diesel? (Fuel shortages Sept. 2021 onwards).

The German state hasn't had the power to direct labour since the days of the Nazis , they are 60,000 drivers short themselves, he actually said that both Brexit and poor wages were the issue in his opinion “It might have something to do with the question of wages.

Just heard there's no fuel in Worthing, all 12 filling stations are dry.

On the plus side, the roads are no longer gridlocked because of the queues.

I’m hoping it will calm down in Kent by Wednesday. I’m in Berkshire tomorrow so I can have a look there too I suppose.

I'd imagine the best summary of likely European response would 'WTF? We thought you taken idiocy as far as it can go? There's more?'

This is all a bit of a nuisance for me. I've been away from home (and my car) since Thursday last week and this has all come from pretty much nowhere.

Tomorrow evening I need to drive 124 miles to my parents place as the following morning I'm taking my dad to hospital for his second cancer operation. I also need to look after my mum in his absence as she has a terminal diagnosis and needs support.

I have 150 miles of fuel left in my car so I can in theory get there but depending on how long this lasts may be marooned there. I can use my dad's car to get him to teh hospital and collected and hopefully in a few days the madness will have subsided. I will need to be put onto his insurance though, what a ballache.

I just had a walk down to my local petrol station to see long queues and people behaving like total pricks. Vans just blocking main roads even though there is clearly no diesel just petrol available. All very reminiscent of the stupid petrol shortages we had in the early 2000's. If word gets around that a place has petrol every dick rushes there whether they need it or not.

Oh well.

Does your insurance not cover you to drive your dad's car?
I would check your paperwork as mine does cover me for things like this.

No, mine is a company car so the car is insured not me. Its handy most of the time because it means pretty much anyone with a licence can drive my car but its a pain in this scenario.

There has been a rise in the number of people breaking down after topping up with the wrong fuel amid a scramble at petrol stations across the UK, the AA has said.

Motoring association the AA said it had experienced an increase in breakdown calls from drivers who had put petrol in diesel cars, or vice versa, during the rush over the weekend.

While the number of calls they would usually receive for such mishaps in any given weekend would be in the tens, this weekend they received 250.

Fucking idiots. :D

Sorry to hear all that Teaboy
I'm doing much the same tomorrow, taking my Dad to hospital for an op. and then looking after Mum.
It's all a worry and arse ache, innit?

Just went for a walk to seek petrol sources but station at the end of the road has been emptied and the other one on Brixton road has 50ish cars waiting in a queue, so not going to see the dogs today.

Son Q has managed to score a full tank, he picked Pollyanna up and found a forecourt that has just had a delivery since the tanker was pulling out as they arrived. They were restricting the punters to £30 apiece but Pollyanna went into the shop in her uniform and flashed her NHS card and a beaming smile at the guy behind the counter (Doesn't hurt she's pretty either) who let them have £45's worth.
I shall have to take her when I go to fill mine up.

If it helps it’s very easy (and cheap) online to get instant 1 (or n) day insurance to drive someone else’s car. Eg

https://www.cuvva.com/landing/temporary-shortterm

Others are available too.

My car is about to hit red. Not too much of an issue as I’m still WFH. However I am due to help a mate move Wednesday who lives 80ish miles away. Luckily mr dovy has an electric car so that’s our work around. Does mean him getting the train Wednesday as I’ll have the car....

Not sure I believe that tbh.
I’ve just listened to the guys rugby podcast and he has expanded on it a bit and appears to be genuine. Interestingly he mentioned that one of the haulage companies in the fuel industry has been losing drivers heavily due to poor working conditions and poor treatment of the employees. No surprise to anyone.
