"The thing about completely configurable firewalls is that you need to know which ports each app uses which is a pain, I get by using zone alarm and avg - never really had any problems.....would recommend those to anybody"
The advantage is that you know what is open and closed, instead of pre-configured popular settings, which after time are not up for the job.
Learning each apps ports is problematic at first, after a while its not a problem.

Apple learnt from Unix about security, hence there are using a altered bsd kernal,OSX is for someone who wants a user friendly OS, so its worth the extra.
