Proposed Northern Line extension to Battersea

This site won't work without extra tranpsort capacity. So extending the tube seems like a good idea to me.

Haha... funny you say that, because the developers have paid TfL £300,000 to manage the transport modelling. They have the 'best' external consultant working on the case too. (nb, tfl don't get a penny of the 300k.. it's all going to external consultants, so basically the developers are getting TfL advice for free!)

You don't think the developers could raise sufficient funds to build it?

The developers of the Cheslea Reach development were going to pay for a station called Imperial Wharf on the now London Overground between Clapham Junction and Wilsden Junction.

It said on maps "opening in 2007" for a while. Now it's been removed from new maps.

Whereas I'd be ecstatic for any line extension anywhere, I can't fucking believe that of all places where the next Underground extension will take place it will be to Battersea Power Station.

Maybe that's where places like Clapham Junction, Tulse Hill and just about hundreds of other spots across London have gone wrong. Instead for campaigning unsucessfully for years, all the locals had to do is to announce plans for an exciting shopping and entertainment complex with luxury flats attached and presto! The tunnelling machines are already heading your way.

Well that idea has worked for that new huge Westfield shopping centre that is opening soon near Sheperd's Bush. There is a new station called Wood Lane being opened.

Though just a new station will be a lot cheaper than new tunnels and whatnot (and it's an above ground station on the H&C line).

I wonder if the developers put anything towards it?

Seems like a bit of a waste of time for just another development of high street shops, its all too out of the way to bother. Surrounded by shoddy industrial style areas.

Shame as its a lovely building, just unfortunate really.

Anyway about the extension, why not just do it properly - split the northern line into two, and extend this line stopping at battersea park / power station, then off to Clapham Junction and even further.

well the N line split is almost a certainty (according to London Connections).

Why the urge to get the Tube to Clapham Junction?

It already has a tube style service with trains every few mintues. 10 minutes and you are in Victoria for the West End and Waterloo for the City.

Reading the links and this thread the only mention of developers financing the extension seems to have come in passing from a poster:
the exhibition said it would be paid for by private finance.
Can't see such a claim on any web sites or in other quotes?

I was looking for a visual exposition of the Kennington Loop, this is all I've been able to locate - scroll down toth e third of the right-side maps, it's opposite the sub heading 'Bank branch'

/ transport geek out

Think this isn't quite FAQ-busting in size!
