You're quite right. But the advent of people putting stuff about themselves online drastically increases the possibilities for a teacher,or anyone else, being caught out doing something "wrong", doesn't it?
I mean, you'd have to be pretty unlucky, or stupid, to be caught getting totally pissed in a pub filled with parents (or teenage pupils!) at the school where you work.
But forums, social networking and Google make it that bit harder to separate your work persona from your private life if you aren't careful.

Yes, but all this mention of online stuff is making it seem far more reasonable than it is. I don't think it's a good idea for teachers to post things up on the internet showing them drinking and so on, even if simply because their pupils will find it before their facebook friends do and will make their lives miserable in class.
But this has no reference to that or general public exposure. It's just a reference to regulating the private lives of teachers, and reports could come in from any source, even if it's one that one wouldn't think would be valid - a bitter ex, say, or a professional rival who's seen you drunk at a work party.
