Professor Green has a whine about the mansion tax

Where have I said I think people living in mansions outside of London should be exempted?
where have you said they shouldn't be? i do expect you to be somewhat proactive and imo your silence means your agreement with the flawed implementation.

Mandelson was snivelling about it today too. Mind, I imagine he's already on the list, and has been there some time.

He had a decent point, that they should add on more council tax bands because the current proposal is a flat tax and more bands mean you would pay more for a ten million pound house than a three million pound one.

I still don't think it'll raise anywhere near the money they claim and they'll end up dragging more people into the 40% bracket on the quite.

His point about people living in houses that have increased dramatically in value is a fair one, but I think that's not going to be more than a small number of people.
No it isn't because you don't have to pay anything until you move out and the tax will be less than the increase in value during the period of the tax.

Plus let's not forget that we're talking about £2m houses here.

Why not just apply the existing system of taxation more fairly and effectively though?
Last time labour tried to do a reevaluation of council tax house basis (which they'd need to do to introduce more bands) there was a massive uproar and they dropped it, I don't think they want to try again.
I agree with you though, would make much more sense.

Theres no reason why it shouldn't, I would have thougth left wing Scots would be all in favour?
Miliband does not seem to be proposing his mansion tax for Scotland. Fear not, though, as the SNP's John Swinney has indeed begun the process to introduce a version in Scotland.

The reasons for it being Swinney not Miliband are available should you wish them, but I considered the details too arcane for the purposes of this discussion.

quite. but this is where my gripe is with the mansion tax, that hardly any properties outside london would be affected. having given the matter some thought there's, i feel, three reasonable answers to this: a local income tax, or placing the most expensive 5% or 10% of properties in a district into the mansion tax, or changing it from a tax on value to a tax on space.
I have long thought a local income tax to be the best way of raising progressive local taxes. Which is, of course, why the Tories and Labour oppose it.

He should do a tune about it. I might have a go and flog it to him. Let's see, what's his stuff like. Let's get into his head.

Ok....well, for starters, a rake is a most unconventional weapon of choice. Does he use it like a staff, like Pigsy in Monkey? Or lay it on the ground and expect foes to smack themselves in the face cartoon style. Best get that itchy cock seen to m8.

Those are brilliantly bad lyrics. People pay for that shit? :-D The world is fucked.

The "mansion tax" proposals are the most pathetic meaningless sops anyway, which is another reason why anyone actually complaining about them is marking their own cards.

Yep. Remember when Phil Collins was noteworthy? We seem to have a whole generation of them now.

It's the bloke that some of my neighbours raved/gloated about when I moved in. I had no idea who he is, they kept on insisting but tbh I wasn't that bothered to check... One day on my way back from the park with the dog I stopped to say hi to a couple of neighbours I had already bonded with...they introduced me to a third neighbour, never met/seen her before.

So PG came up in her conversation with me, after what I do, where I had moved from etc... Do I know him, how excting it is blah, blah?...I obviously must have looked bemused becasue she insisted I must know who he is, I said I didn't...she insisted on account of him being a rapper I must do... Cue the other two neighbours looking away and me asking her with a sincere look of 'OMG' You think he is Black don't you?

Turns out she doesn't know him or what he looks like either.

No, she didn't repond to my question, she kind of spluttered and looked away...I had better things to do than to wait around.
