Problems connecting to Internet

Then run another ethernet cable from a spare port on the router to the network port on your PC.

Start> Settings> Network Connections> Local Area Connection
Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Make it look like so:

Click Ok, and OK.

Done. :)

Hey, when you reinstalled Windows on your PC, did you use the disks that came with the PC? Because you may need to reinstall allsorts of hardware drivers including ones for the network card, sound card, graphics card etc etc.

If you right-click 'My Computer'> Properties> Hardware> Device Manager and there're little yellow exclamation marks next to anything on the list you're going to have to start finding and installing drivers...

Ok...

Try Start> Run> Type "cmd" in the box (without quotes) and press enter.

In the black box type the command
ipconfig /all

Do you see something like this?
Code:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
        Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated
        Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1C-23-A7-9B-54
        Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
        Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.3
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
        DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
        DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
        Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 06 June 2008 23:41:33
        Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 13 June 2008 23:41:33

Or this?
Code:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

        Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
        Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated
        Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1C-23-A7-9B-54

Already selected, still nothing happening.

Edit: hmm, three exclamation marks, Ethernet controller...

Argh you need the drivers for your network card! Down the snake and back to square one! :(

Hopefully you have the driver disk (or recovery disk) that came with your PC. You're much better off using the network card than a USB job.

Aha! Got it !! Used the dell resource disk and just installed everything applicable.:oThanks a million for help guys and KP!
