Pro-Gun Florida Woman Shot by 4-Year-Old Son

I've put you on ignore several times, I've begged you to leave me alone, I've tried to appease you, I've admitted I'm wrong and thick as shit.

Leave me the fuck alone, you creepy stalker fucker.
yeh nice to see the bollocks 'stalker' card being played again. be nicer if you could produce some evidence for your claim, like my going onto every thread you post on and quoting you. i've just checked and this will be the 498th post in which your name appears: while you've quoted or referred to me in about 400 posts. i don't believe that's unreasonable.

Stop it, I beg you. Please just stop it.

Yes, please stop.

Glad you didn't object to me saying you don't actually care about their trauma. That would have been particularly hypocritical since you've told someone here to kill himself.

"liberal filth" - looks a right-on thing to say to me. Why is it liberal filth to point out the irony in a right-wing gun nut being shot because she didn't take basic safety precautions? In your answer, please bear in mind that you've told someone here to kill himself. Can I call that liberal filth or perhaps illiberal filth?

Shut it, you liberal filth! The only reason you're objecting is that you're liberal filth too! I bet you read The Guardian, and masturbate of Laurie Penny's byline picture, you douchebag!

Did you read the OP, the links in it?

Yes I do care if a young child is in a situation it doesn't understand and can seriously injure or kill his/her parent and what that must do to both of them. I will also see people given only partial information via the media to see themselves as having the 'green light' to rub her nose in it, people who are on one side of a debate that I am not a part of in a society I don't live in but nevertheless I don't think it is going to serve a purpose in helping them both recover. Thats the last thing that's important. It's about being smug and superior. And this kind of ugliness is similar to the chav-bashing we see here. Let's laugh at the thickos not like us. And quite frankly, if some nasty little shit wants to throw drive-by classist insults at me and at my own family (and a tasteless joke of mine on another thread used as a moral cover for it) then yes he can go and kill himself.

What somewhat disturbs me is that even the most pro-gun people I've known, have usually been well-versed in - and practice - good firearms safety. Where I find the woman in question objectionable/suitable for opprobrium is that while she was teaching her 4-yr old to shoot a firearm, she was setting an appalling example with regards to safety. By the age of 4 you're usually somewhat educated that some things can cause problems if you mess around with them, but mum seems not to have included firearms along with the usual lectures on knives, scissors and matches. To me that doesn't seem like stupidity - she's not a "stupid redneck" or whatever - it seems like an ideology-induced blindness.

I took it to be the irony of someone who wants fewer controls on guns discovering the problems inherent in fewer controls on guns.

Simplistic.
To be an inherent problem, the "problem" that the mother experienced would have to be one that manifested widely. It doesn't (in terms of the percentage of the gun-totin' population it manifests on).
It's a problem inherent to poor firearms safety, rather than one of "controls on guns". People taught to respect tools generally have fewer tool-related accidents than people who haven't been taught to respect tools. Most militaries punish unintentional discharges quite severely. They do this because soldiers are taught to "respect" their firearms. Anyone having an unintentional (ooh-er!) discharge has to have been negligent for it to come about.

Of course I don't want her to be shot that's one of the reasons I dislike right-wing gun nuts they normally make things more dangerous for everyone round them. The best way for her not to be shot is for her not to have guns around .... oh wait

It doesn't help any argument to rehash old tropes like "right-wing gun nut". For every PBMan, there are half a dozen US gun-owners who are sane and rational.

Just put it on ignore and here is the key keep it on ignore. Your life will be sweeter.

Possibly, but there are an awful lot of gun accidents. You can reduce the number of gun accidents by improving firearms safety or by reducing the number of guns.

I'll look forward to you criticizing people rehashing old tropes like "stupid tories" on the Stupid Tories thread, then. For every IDS, there are half a dozen tories who are quite intelligent.

:)

Seems like a cry for help really - the decent normal looking woman is probably compassed about with all manner of gun-boasting blabber in the land of aquitted Ham-Hand Zimmerman: and being particularly vulnerable , her conscience was wounded, while she cast the weapon in with the sippycup and toys.

I agree with this - obviously this woman has been very negligent and is on what I would consider the wrong side of the gun debate, but the amount of gloating I have seen over this is ridiculous, it's as if commentators have dehumanized the people involved because they don't agree with their stance on guns.

It seems like because we speak the same language, people forget that the US is a foreign country - whether or not we watch the same TV shows, people in Britain have a lot more in common with people in Germany, France, Sweden, and probably even Slovakia than they do with people in rural Florida.

Unless you completely changed the nation into somewhere where national service was a thing proper training wouldnt happen.
US "training" to legally carry a gun in public is a joke.
Currently to target shoot in the UK you have to attend a club for at least 6 months before you can even apply for a licence. The Germans will allow you to have a military style rifle if you pass both a written and practical exam set by your peers and being German they are serious about it. Completely diffrent set of tests if you want to hunt :D.
Swiss are laid back in comparsion but your part of the milita anyway so you get a free rifle if your swiss.
