Pro-Gun Florida Woman Shot by 4-Year-Old Son

The endangered/injured child being a footnote to the story then?
It's the mother who bought the gun, it's the mother who was a passionate pro gun nut who used social media to slag off anyone asking for gun control, it's the mother who took the kid along to gun meets, it's the mother who made him pose with a gun, and it's the mother who was stupid and reckless enough to leave a loaded gun within his reach. And it's the mother who posted this:
"My right to protect my child with a gun trumps your fear of my gun."

So, yes, I'd say that it's all about her. The poor kid is just the tragic victim in her rampant stupidity.

So a situation where a 'bad' person recieves 'deserving' punishment and an innocent person is harmed is a good/karmic outcome?

No argument that the mothers actions and attitudes hitherto were moronic and irresponsible, nor that she was responsible for the negligence of allowing her son access to a gun, and so for her own injury. But karma? This grim event was a just thing?

I am assuming the gun was a revolver, in which case if the child had enough strength to pull the trigger it would fire. But don't they have any safety catch at all? If it was a pistol then she must have left it with one in the spout which would have been unwise.

I'm trying to work out why she would have left a loaded gun on the back seat. Most women would (I suppose) put it in her handbag which would be in the front next to her. Leaving stuff on the back seat invites theft, especially a gun would. If it's on the back seat it's no good for self-protection which is the point of the thing. If there's no need for self-protection then it should unloaded and placed somewhere secure; some gun-owners have a safe in the car where their guns can be stored if they go the firing range.

Stupidity.
Well, yes. But why did she have the gun in her hand? Had she just been threatened? But in that case she would have kept the gun near her. It's difficult to see why a woman with a young child would be carrying a gun, and then forget where she put it. And not put her child in its seat and secure it.

Because she LOVES guns.
Well, yes. But carrying a loaded gun in public is not normal. Most people have it concealed. Florida is not an 'open-carry' state. So why would she have been carrying a loaded gun in public where it's illegal?

This improves the gun lobby case for free access to guns.

If you can be shot by a four year old then everyone needs a gun to protect themselves from these gun toting four year olds. America isn't safe, you need a gun to protect yourself.

If she'd had another gun to hand and could have shot her son first she'd have been fine. So only having one gun isn't safe enough, you need lots of guns to truly be safe.

its been brought up on several of the many 'idiot leaves 2yo and loaded gun together and is suprised by the results' threads - for some people (loons) a loaded gun is no different to your phone or car keys, something they lob onto the sofa when they walk in the door or chuck on the back seat when they get in the car.

it is an attitude so utterly removed from a European mentality that in trying to understand it you may as well try to have a conversation with a rock.

It was a .45 so more than likely a .45 1911a1 automatic pistol old style pistol can be carried cocked with out the safety but really really shouldnt be. Although other models like glocks can be carried without a pistol.

But apprantly women need guns to be instantly accesible so thats why children get hold of guns and shoot people :facepalm:*

* that was the defense given by us gun nuts to this latest piece of idiocy:(

It was on the back seat of her car completely legal.
