  1. The Boy

The Boy danny la rouge is probably wrong.

May as well get this one started seeing as the parcours for next year's tour has been published.

Some crazy stuff, including a stage with >20km of cobbles, a 65km mountain stage and only solitary hilly ITT of ~35km

    Should be fun.

The disc wars have now been fought and won (or lost depending on your p.o.v.) but I think 1x road bikes will face similar opposition from the same reactionary forces.

This 3T is almost functionally equivalent as it has 355% gear range. A normal road setup (say 50/36 x 11-28) is 368%.

In other tech. news WNT are racing the new Rotor UNO hydraulic gruppo which is interesting but more expensive than Super Record EPS so no thanks...

Apparently the cassette can go as low as 9t and high as 42, so the range isn’t an issue. I’d be more worried about the big jumps between certain ratios...

Did anyone watch that? Is it worth catching on iPlayer?

I did. Did I learn anything, not really. Interesting - 8/10.

Yeah, it was interesting enough but didn’t exactly tell us anything we didn’t already know.

Robert Miller was really pissed of by sky's use of Tue's.
Riders being deselected because they are not on form..where's the issue with that?
bullying....thin line between encouragement and bullying....it worked.
wiggo got door stepped and wouldn't give an interview.
    what else was there?

I went along to Ned Boulting's 'Bikeology' show last night.. it was kind of a bit like 'Top Gear' for people who watch too much cycling on TV. Bizarre really, but a good night out.. :)

I imagine there will be some interesting thinking going on in other teams now about who to ride where... I thought Mikel Landa was going to ride the Giro.. so I bet he's chuffed today..

Should make things more interesting next year anyway... I guess Sky think they've figured out how to ride and win 2 tours now.

Yeah, they must be pretty confident that it’s not going to fuckup him getting the 5th tour.

Will he take the giro seriously or is he doing it for the money?

  20. beesonthewhatnow

Course he will, he wants that place in the history books.

He's getting 2m euros just to show up to the Giro...

I thought that had been denied by the organisers?

They would wouldn't they. If one gets a start fee, many others will be wanting one also and we can't have that.
I see the start in Israel is in doubt because the giro have called the starting place West Jeresulem.

I think that’s all been sorted now also.

I'm impressed with Froome's decision. There are a lot of incentives, in terms of legacy, money and his team's interests, to concentrate on getting a fifth Tour. I'm pleasantly surprised that he's willing to hurt his chances of winning the Tour to try for a double that's become almost ludicrously difficult to pull off in modern cycling.

This is, of course, the year to do it if he's ever going to. Given his age now, he's certainly on the "down slope" of his physical abilities. And this season there's an extra week between the Giro and the Tour, which should make it a little easier. Plus, if he's really dreaming big, the WC at the end of the year is one for climbers so it's not entirely out of the question that he could join Merckx and Roche in the most exclusive club in cycling. (Pretty seriously unlikely though given his poor one day race record).

What a load of bollocks. He was tested daily, all fine bar one. He uses an asthma inhaler, legally. This is a complete non story.
