This sort of thing isn't exactly pen-pushing or an easy job, and I'm mildly impressed when a Royal, who could just decide to sit in his gilded cage and take things easy, makes the effort to go for doing a difficult and challenging job. He doesn't have to. So kudos to him for wanting to.

I'm no fawning royalist, but there are about seventy-four million ways in which we could have a shittier, scummier, nastier, more pathetic royal family than we do, and it makes my job as someone who thinks that, on the whole, they don't do too badly that much easier when they try so bloody hard to get involved in doing useful, skilled, decent stuff. Admittedly, there are probably quite a few million ways in which they could be better, but give me a royal family with people who ARE prepared to go in harm's way and do the job than any number of grey-suited rent-a-viewpoint politicians for whom "expediency" is the sole watchword...

Because if we booted out the royals, that's what we'd get instead.

there is a lot of sense in what you say .
Either you follow the 'don't give a fuck' line which is extremely respectable or you look at alternatives in the context of today's society.

personally I think royalism should be a hobby in which royal fans would give subscriptions to 'their' Monarch of choice probably in return for Garden party invites, decorations etc.
