Bosky is of course right on target here. The idea that the primary colours are red yellow and blue is false. It is a simplified idea that infant children can grasp. They are taught that red and blue makes purple and blue and yellow makes green and red and yellow makes orange. This is only nearly right in paints.
If the red they are given is a Vermillion red then adding it to blue will only give a horrible muddy brown. Crimson and blue will make a purple though.
I would think that anyone of of teenage years or upwards would know the difference between the additive primary colours of Red Green and Blue which are used in TV screens and monitors and are taught in Physics, compared to the subtractive primaries namely Cyan Magnenta and Yellow, that are used with printing inks.
It is the latter 3 colours that look a bit like the blue red and yellow that are taught to infants.
I think that for the purposes of this competition, people should be able to choose whether they want to use the additive primaries or subtractive primaries. Or to combine the two in their set of entries.
This means that any of RED, GREEN, YELLOW, CYAN or BLUE could justifiably used as both sets of primaries are covered.
