Fair play to the Yanks - record voter turn-out across the board and a country that really does seem to be unanimously admitting it needs to change for the better to survive and prosper.
A tough, tough time to take on the presidency in many ways...though he does have the luxury of superseding Bush, which gives him a healthy starter pack of "get out of jail" cards.

i rarely get truly emotional about these sort of things, but i am so happy about this and am glad i lived to see this day and also glad my children can witness this awesome moment in history. And it IS a great moment in history.
That may sound hokey to you (or anyone), if it does sorry, but its true.
i know hes got quite a job ahead etc, but for just this moment, today, its something to stand in awe of and bask in.

We are a cynical bunch on U75, but I think we can all accept this was a little slice of history. A "where were you" moment. And yeah, that speech was special.
And for the UK? One hopes that this will have a meaning for those disillusioned in society who think British elections are not for them, young generally, and black specifically.
