Prem home grown player rule - def next season

Would he even want to after that, Id be a little suspect of the entire squad having been inexplicably kidnapped and brutally murdered frankly and the management saying, Hey, fancy a game now?.

I had to limit my daydreaming to the first team. Work were starting to notice.

That doesn't appear to be the rule, I don't think? It says that there will be a "squad cap of 25 players".

That would make more sense, but doesnt appear to be the case unfortunately.

and can they then play?

it is the case... from the bbc website (and repeated on sky sports a minute ago)...

"Under the new measures, clubs will be able to boost their squads beyond the 25 limit but only by players under the age of 21."

Ah that makes sense then lol, like one of those diet plans, have 8 from the red foods, 17 from the yellow foods and as much salad as you want.

So you've got to have a squad of 25.

17 can be anybody.
8 have to be either trained in england for 3 years before the age of 21, or under 21.

And then you can play anybody under 21 as well?

Ohh as many under 21's as you want!! That makes a bit more sense.

we probably already have that squad sorted then.

Has any0one read anything about what teams are already okay or anything? I want to see if anyone is actually going to be screwed. My bets would be liverpool, chelsea, blackburn and man city.

So, what happens if one of these teams for whatever reason, fails to meet the new rules?

Um.... no idea... I hope they've set some kind of definite sanctions out though cos otherwise they'll probably get a fine and then some other clubs will decide that it's not right and start campaigning for a points deduction and then one of them will get relegated and blame the other team and it'll rumble on through the courts before some utter lunatic decides that, in fact, black is white and he's napoleon and somebody will have to pay somebody else £21million.

So if the rulechange is such that it actually makes no difference to the teams based on them being completely free to choose whoever they want for x number of years and having plenty of cash to do so. How does this really help anything?

So 8 out of the 25 in your Premiership squad must have trained for three years under the age of 21 within the English and Welsh professional system.

Interesting?

Very interesting, and an unusually brave system for the Premier League.

The two defects in the new rules are:

(1) 21 is too high; it should be 19 or 20.

(2) it requires that the players should have been trained for three years by any club, rather than by the club in question itself. It does make it likely that the likes of Chelsea will continue poaching the talent of others rather than develop it themselves.

More fool Chelsea then, a good youth system is in a clubs own self interest.

... so the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal can simply continue picking up 16 year-old African and South American players (or even Mediterrenean players, for that matter) with impunity? And having 7 such players under 21 would see you good?

Marvellous stuff.

Yeah. I'm not sure about this rule. The other thing is that usually it's the middlebrow teams just above us who are sniffing around our players. If this comes in the liverpools and arsenals will be after the best Academy players too :(

Not to worry rd we will have another 10 coming through!(providing we dont get relegated:mad: )

I have decided this ruling will make the welsh league stronger. For example we sent zavon hines(i think it was him) down to the blue sq prem to get some experience last season, this would now be a bad idea.

Sending him to TNS however would be a good idea, same goes for league two players needing experience.

Ummm have the eu commented about this yet?

Surely it can't be legal under freedom of movement type laws?

dave
This is actually the result of lengthy negotiations with the EU. The original plan was to have a minimum number of nationals from the country of the league the team plays in (ie a minimum of 8 English/Welsh players). But EU laws make it illegal to discriminate on the grounds of nationality so they had to change it to "homegrown" instead which gets around the law as it can mean any nationality (and effectively means the majority of these homegrown players will, or eventually will, come from that country)

Something I've become adept at in Footie Manager over the years.

I'd be so awesome managing Chelski in real life. "We signed a foetus on a pre-contract agreement. He was fertilised with the sperm of George Best into an egg containing genetic material from all 12 of Maradona's daughters. He's kicking away inside his tank already!"

:D

Thinking about it though, this ruling could have quite dodgy implications - kids getting pushed into signing with clubs younger and younger, burning out way too fast..

It's been happening for a while though. Kids younger and younger being scouted by local teams. My cousin is only 9 and he has Stockport County sniffing around, for example.

He'll end up an alcoholic, coke head, cheating bastard

For the record, the suffix "-ski" isn't really Russian. Saying "Chelski" isn't really any more logical than saying "Chelsish" or "Chelsienne". Unless you think that all languages from Eastern Europe are just the same thing, of course.

How will Chelsea be affected by this as they are embargoed for the next 2 transfer windows?
