Pre season 16/17

Have to say I like Ash. He has his faults which is why he is playing at our level but he has plenty of good qualities and I think will benefit from having a genuine ball winner in Kargbo and the quality hold up play of Carr.

The idea of having Carew and Beaney in the same team is frightening - we can't have Kargbo doing the defensive work of two players!

Really liked the look of Kargbo. Think it'll make such a difference having someone who is a specialist holding player in the team. His positioning was largely excellent throughout, he did a great job shielding and putting the boot in when required and he also offered some real leadership which I think we lacked at times last season. He was constantly talking to the lads behind him making sure they kept their shape and didn't sit too deep. Could be the player we've long been crying out for in the middle.

Bromley fan here. Thanks for a great afternoon at your place, big admirer of the club. It would be difficult to take too much from today as the first team only played the first half and the second half consisted of academy boys and trialists.
However it's obvious a few of your boys are going to be a handful for defences in that division so I hope it bodes well for a championship winning season.
I enjoyed seeing Ming again, I was always a fan of his when he played at Hayes Lane, and it was lovely to enjoy a pint pitch side - I'd forgotten what a simple pleasure that is.
Once again thanks and good luck

Hi all, Bromley fan coming in peace. Had a great day out at your place today (or yesterday as it's now nearly 3am!) despite the result. First half was tighter than I expected considering it was our first team, Dulwich really put it to us. Our 2nd half team of triallists and academy lads did crumble a bit but taking nothing away from a good performance from your lot.

Feel free to ignore this but I do just want to respond in defence of our club to a couple of comments I read on this thread by Dulwich Mishi, questioning whether Bromley is a 'welcoming' club. Firstly, on segregation, yes it's very sad that last season for the first time ever (other than AFC Wimbledon's visit 6 or 7 years back), segregation has been imposed upon us for league games. This has been controversial as the vast majority of regulars are completely anti-segregation. Mingling with opposition fans is part and parcel of non-league football and fans have been very vocal in protesting this to the club. But unfortunately, due to the level we're at with visiting teams regularly being big ex-league clubs like Tranmere, Wrexham, Lincoln, Grimsby etc with large followings who have a history, segregation has been forced upon us and does have to be accepted, at least while we're in the National League. The club does manage to skirt round it when we have the more 'traditional' non-league teams visiting like Guiseley, Boreham Wood etc, by using 'soft segregation' meaning away fans still have access to the Ravens bar and in those games some degree of the old school non-league atmosphere survives pre-match, half-time and post-match. At some matches groups of Bromley fans have skipped round stewards to spend the second half in the away section, making friends and watching the game with the visiting fans.

Regarding an EDL flag last season. Embarrassingly, yes there was one midweek game in which a flag was unfurled behind the goal by a group that were not known regulars, to the utter disgust of those in attendance. It has to be stressed that the culprits were immediately reported to stewards and banned from the club - I may be remembering incorrectly but I seem to remember them being ejected at half time too. The ringleader of the group then went on a campaign on his (Millwall plastered) twitter account slagging off Bromley FC, so it's quite sad to see that these absolute mugs have somehow become seen by others to represent our club. Again, it was ONE game, the culprits were NOT Bromley fans and they will NOT be seen again at Hayes Lane.

Also, in quick defence of Mashstpaddy. I'm sure you have some thoughts on him after his 'hipster fans' comments but honestly, he is a very nice chap who is well known at Bromley and has been a solid regular home and away for 20+ years. I don't know him too well personally but I know he's been through Bromley's highest highs and lowest lows as a fan and I think can be cut a bit of slack for what is, in my opinion, a fairly tongue in cheek article.

No wonder Kargbo looked quite good against Bromley...

That was a pleasant way of spending 45 minutes during the lunchtime period on Saturday (I messed up BIG time on the money front and missed the first half completely.)

It's always far too early to make any silly predication at this stage of the 'season' - but just to annoy Mishi, I'm expecting us to have the league wrapped up by Easter.

Lovely atmosphere in the ground yesterday.

Random words and pics.

Slight typo from 'back in the old days'...we'd call the old Frenchies 'Le Bromlei'; you typed 'Bomlei', but I guess it's easy to lose something in the translation! ;)

That old terrace chant to get them going: 'You can stick your Channel Tunnel up your arse' & bringing your passport along to show them!

And just to correct something else, I wasn't 'relieved' of 50/50 duties, I'd just finished them for the day, and had time to catch up with you, with a smaller pre-season gate. Which, less than a decade ago would have been a huge league gate for us, which we would all be enthusing over...

Yes. They now have a game at home to a Crystal Palace XI on Friday. We are now away to Erith & Belvedere on Thursday; they share the ground at Welling United.
