Pre season 16/17

Although I understand nothing I say will change peoples views... The over the top searches and stewarding was down to what happened at the League match a few years before hand at our ground after the green smoke bomb went off. There was then an incident between a couple of your supporters and our stewards which got out of hand.
In which case why has your club invited us back for a game they don't have to play? The overall impression I got at the London Senior Cup match was that T&MUFC really didn't want our supporters there, and that hosting us was a nuisance. Fine, I don't especially have a problem with that, there are a few other clubs with supporters I'd rather not see back at Champion Hill, but you could have invited countless other clubs for this fixture. I don't especially have a problem with bag searches if a minority of people are going to ignore clear requests not to bring certain items, whether it's glassware or smoke bombs, but I draw the line at being frisked. (Unless someone is wearing a great big coat with poachers pockets you can see they aren't concealing those sort of items anyway.) Presumably someone thought it would be a good idea to invite our team on the assumption that we'd bring lots of support and it would yield more revenue for Tooting, so that's why I won't be attending, and unless other Hamlet supporters especially want to see this game I suggest they take a stand and do likewise.

Well you've convinced me...oh, hang on, I don't pay as a Club Official anyway, so I might go, if I can be bothered.

What goes on behind the scenes at T&MUFC is a mystery to us as well as you, but as you rightly said I'm sure you were asked back for money reasons..... I enjoyed having you all at our ground. As did the vast majority of our support. Very rarely at our level do you get anything like the numbers you lot brought. Even the local derbies with Carshalton etc. don't get anything like the crowds at that cup game.... and certainly not the atmosphere generated by both sets of fans on the night. I spoke to a couple of neutrals ( Sutton and Whitehawk) who enjoyed the night as well.
Football needs banter, rivalry and even hatred..... Take that away and it can be pretty pointless...
And all said and done, I do understand why you won't be there.

I haven't noticed any undue friction between opposing supporters at our games with Tooting for many years, and the atmosphere during this game was exactly how most supporters like it to be as far as I could tell. It only seems to be the club itself regarding us with suspicion, and I accept that a minority of Hamlet supporters were deliberately annoying stewards by being unco-operative at the previous visit three years earlier in a way that would probably have many of our own supporters complaining if visiting fans did the same thing at one of our home games. It would be interesting to know whether any prohibited items were discovered as a result of the extensive searching procedure. (Not sure exactly what the stewards were expecting to find: Alcohol? Smoke bombs? Weapons??) I also subscribe to the theory that if you treat all paying spectators like an anti-social nuisance who can't be trusted to behave properly (as opposed to simply being vigilant and cracking down on any who do make a real nuisance of themselves) it's more likely to become a self-fulfilling prophesy. I've always found Tooting to be a perfectly hospitable club in the past, so it was disappointing to be made to feel less than welcome this time.

Nice and easy email address to remember.

Not an email.

Update for the diaries - Bromley game is now a 12 noon KO due to wedding function booked for the bar. Arrangements are being made to sort out outside facilities. More info when its sorted.

Slight tangent here, but does it cost the club money to use Seetickets? Just wonder how Seetickets make money out of it, as the tickets are on sale at gate prices and there doesn't seem to be an admin fee.

As I understand it isn't very much per ticket and the club covers it. Which is a very positive move by the club to help fans out!!
