Power cuts

A few years ago there used to be regular power cuts where I lived but not where I worked - half an hour's walk away. I would get home and the power would be on but all the timers on things like the video and sound system would be flashing and showing 4:00 pm. Why it was always 4 o'clock still has me mystified. It seems to be stable now but I fear that as the energy crisis deepens this could be something we have to get used to.

Like most people I have gas heating. Gas doesn't get cut off like electricity although I suppose they can reduce the pressure. What a pity that gas central heating relies upon electicity to fire it up and drive the pumps. You need both sets of infrastructure to be working to stay warm.

I think that the gas companies should come up with a small gas-powered generator that creates electricity. It could be used to provide power to gas heating systems with an optional link to give emergency power for home use.

You can get small scale CHP units.

How often do you get them, if at all?
We keep bloody getting them down in St leonards. wake up in the morning and find the time flashing zero on the radio...

went off for half an hour the other week in the evening when I was up. I found my wind-up torch and wind-up radio and sat prepared to wait out the night. I am now convinced I am prepared to survive an apocalypse  (although it only lasted half an hour) :hmm:

We get them regularly - maybe once a week. Had a lovely candlelit game of scrabble a couple of weeks ago - the wife spanked me. You just learn to live with it (the dark, rather than getting spanked at scrabble, that is.)

I think they're going to get more popular in the UK as the energy gap approaches.
