i wouldn't call the Bryan Adams tragedy power ballads either. i dunno, i think there needs to be a big keychange...notes held for longer than is necessary/humanly possible etc.

Ok, well someone define power ballads, and then I'll cast my vote.

Where does Sophie B Hawkins 'Damn I wish I was Your Lover' and Lynyrd Skynrd's 'Freebird' fit in? Googling suggests both are power ballads, but I'm not sure I'd agree.

But love a lot of ones which are closer to the rock end of the power-ballad spectrum (November rain, don't cry, Estranged <---personal fav by G'nR, Every Rose has it's Thorn by Poison, probably a couple of Bon Jovi).

In summary, there are a lot of shite PB's out there, but I can't throw out the baby with the bathwater, so Not Crap.
