Possible "Wholesome" Jan 2nd Walkies??

Okay - the walk will follow the route of The Ridgeway path on the Chilterns.. doing the section between Princes Risborough to Wendover. This will incorporate sections of the ancient Icknield Way and views of Chequers - Tony Blair's country residence. :)

Total length: 6 miles

Depart: London Marlybone 10.54, arrive Princes Risborough 11.38.

Please wear sensible footwear/clothing. And feel free to bring light refreshements.

This will be a no-nonsense-get-on-with-the-job walk. There's abit of up-and-down on the walk. Err, as its through woodland and I ain't done it for several years, enthusiasts of watching the walk leader get completely fuckin' lost should be in for a good un'.

No pubs on the route. However from memory Wendover has acouple of decent boozers/teashops etc to end up at.

We'll be getting the train back from Wendover to Marlybone.

I shall be checking for 'Planned Engineering Works' here over the next few days.

Please check the thread on the day before to ensure its still all happening.

I'd like to come to this, but it takes me about 1 1/2 hours to get to Marylebone. I'll wait and see. :)

Yeah well the start could be made abit later if we walk quicker.

Dunno - up for suggestions
I'd be up for later start and faster walk.

I have some friends who live in nearby Thame, I might invite them along. :)

Hmm.. the latest is depart 11.20 get there 12.01 . I suppose 6/7 miles in 4 hours is realistic.. We have a 4pm sunset. I think I favour 10.54 depart arrive 11.38...allows abit more time for getting lost etc.

Seeing as I'll have to be up early the next day for work, I suppose it would be OK to get back into it by waking up earlier than I have been this week for a nice reason!

Did nobody think to buy the man GPS for any of his recent spate of birthdays! :)

Interestingly I hear the Europead Gallileo system will be able to pinpoint people to within 3 feet. Sounds good to me.

Looks good to me (hangover/weather dependant, of course).

I really fancy a GPS thingy, but there was nothing in Santa's sack for me :(

How weird my first house and primary school was in Princes Risborough & my mum still lives near there... Will be there unless it is raining very hard.

Last time we did a walk on the 2nd January we ended up finishing it in the dark. A 6 miler should be OK but it might be as well to take a couple of torches along....

We can't make this now because I'm cooking for the Magpies birthdays. Have fun!

Just as well then that Father Christmas brought Kameron not 1 but 2 torches.

I /we'll be there [small print]state of health and weather permitting[/small print]

Yeah, it looks mild at least. Thinking of looking for a thermos in the sales this afternoon so I can take some hot soup with me. :)

I would love to come to this :) Would I need proper walking boots? Don't have any...

Probly a bit muddy so something waterproof a good idea methinks. As long as it's got a grip you'll be fine :)

Don't think it's gonna be much muddier (or should that be juicier) than your average dirty squat party! In fact, I was going to leave the cleaning of my NYE shoes till tomorrow - a few country puddles and leaves can only be an improvement. :D

Yeah, I'm all excited now... my walking boots haven't been out for a while, but here's their chance. :)

Ouw...

Due to my carcass already taking a complete hammering from the excesses of the NYE celebrations, I've decided to wuss out on the aforementioned walk. Not much of a surprise there but still... :o So have a good one oh "wholesome folk". ;)
