Portishead to Curate/Perform at ATP Xmas Fest

Sunspots

what's my mission now?...
Er... -and that's all the info there is at the mo'.

Not too bothered either way about Portishead myself, but I reckon it's a bit of an unlikely choice of ATP curator. I predict a selection of anguished melancholy, hip hop, and doom metal... :D /

I'd go to this if but I won't be around then.

They're phenomenal live and should pick some decent people to play, too.

Good idea, imo.

I did see them live when they played in Bristol for free about 10 years ago, and yeah, they were excellent. A talented bunch of individuals.

i think it'll be dull as hell, i could be wrong.. some neo-folk, some moody beats, maybe some hip hop and northern soul djs..

One of the only band's I've gladly stood through torrential, monsoon-like rain for. In what was once a field but rapidly became a ditch.

(Glastonbury, surprise, surprise).

Bloody wonderful, they were. :)

As expected, already a strong showing by Invada-associated bands... :D

a line-up like that makes me wonder if the curators have less and less say in who gets booked, to be honest.

Tbh don't really think we can make those kind of judgements as to the individual tastes of the members of Portishead!

no, but several of those acts have been booked by Barry from ATP before, or have involve with the whole ATP organisation..

i suspect it's a variety of approaches. Some artists the curators really want. Then - like a C4 film poll where you can choose from a list of titles - some that are somewhat foisted on you.. Look at the amount of bands who regularly appear at ATP (like Shellac) who now only play ATP-booked gigs. (remember Barry from ATP used to run Forward booking agency.. )

nah, it's just not doing it for me. Lots of stuff I'd go and see if i was there, not much to make me go.

although Kling Klang are fucking ace :)

I'm thinking of going as friends of mine are and I can bunk with them. I don't know many of the bands and I'm not that excited about the ones I know. Tell me which ones to check out.

Would have loved to go last year, great line up.

*bump*

I did suggest in my OP that there'd be a strong dooooooom contingent in the line-up, and it's now shaping up nicely in that direction...
