pork pie with egg in - yay/nay?

Gala pie?? Is that not some sort of supermarket name rubbish or is it actually from Gala??

I suppose that would make sense as it's a close relative of the Scotch Egg and if want want pork and egg that's the way I like it.

Pork pies should be left traditional...no egs, no chutney, no bloody cranberries.

And I was a vegetarian at the time :(
I hate the jelly in pork pies, anyway. Why do they put it in?

They are definitely called Gala pies. I don't think it's cos they're from Gala(shiels), more likely a reference to them being a 'high days and holidays' kind of thing - all the wee towns and villages in the Lowlands have some kind of Gala Day in the summer. When I was growing up we went to the Gifford Gala every year to run three-legged races, guess the weight of the pig and give a token to the fierce looking WRI lady for a paper bag containing either a scotch pie or a slice of Gala pie, and a sticky bun, and a free ice cream

firstly, the jelly is lovely :)

secondly, Orang is correct, anything with egg in it that looks like that is wrong.
