Popstars line up to fill their pockets with corporate cash

but those articles contradict each other  The earlier article says the White Stripes have been signed up and the later article states they are in negotiations , which is the point I'm making , considering the debate about the White Stripes "selling out" it might be important to actually have confirmation that they have instead of what appears to be rumours and speculation !

Thing to note is that IMHO the one report that doesn't discuss the negotiations stands out as slightly less informative, and I think it's a nuance missed by the journalist concerned.

I trust the Macworld report on the whole.

The thread wasn't specifically about the White Stripes, although there is a string of reputable sources stating that they are already in negotiations with Motorola.

I have merely repeated what the industry has been saying about them. If you have a problem with what the sources are reporting, I suggest you take it up with them.

Don't the peeps from 'Green Day' profess to be cool or something?
Sad about Iggy - the rest are a bunch of adverts waiting to happen.

As I mentioned I'm not quite as anti this as others. That's just my position. We aren't in an ideal world. But we try..
I put Green Day on once. It was a benefit gig (secret headliner). They did it for nothing and helped us raise a lot of money for a free festival. So I think they are alright.
Also on the bill that time were: Dub War, China Drum, Blaggers ITA.
We actually ahd to move the gig from the Marquee to a Mean Fiddler venue, as Marquee bottled it due to claims they had received NF threats because the Blaggers were playing.
Fortunately, Vince Power hates Nazi Fascist Scum, so he laid on 10 security guards for the night, at no extra charge. We also had a huge number of AFA guys down, plus our own personal crew.
The bad boys didn't show up. We had a great time. Blaggers and Green Day saw each other rehearse, and ended up arguing about who would headline, kind of "you headline", "no , you headline" and so on. Blaggers headlined, I think. Neil Pengelly was there. He was all smiles.
It was a great gig.

Exactly - which is why I'd prefer that bands like this didn't do ads - particularly as they have no financial need to do so. Iggy Pop has a stronger argument for that I'd guess.

Cheers Dub. It was one of ten gigs we put on across 14 days. Some bombed. Some went well. That was my favourite, but they all had something memorable about them.
Perhaps the most perplexing was the 20 bands we put on in a day at the Robey (I miss the Robey SO MUCH, if it was still running would probably still be promoting). We turned up quite weary to run the event, only to discover Club Dog had taken away the second stage we had been promised, and then the second PA head blew up during first sound chack. We found another...
But it was ***king chaos, mate.
I'd like to promote some gigs again, you know. But I can't see me running across London with flyers any more, too tired.
But I'll put gigs on again, given the chance.
Cheers!
:)

But not researched it ? The only official sounding statement has been along the lines of "negotiations" with the White Stripes and all the other articles have read it as The White Stripes have actually agreed to do the ads .

Yes, negotiations.

That what I said in my first post. That's what I've accurately reported several times since.

So what's yer fucking beef?

Oi! Henry! It's alright man. It's "negotiations" - you know?

*slightly frustrated sigh*

I'm trying to contact 'the stripes', so meanwhile let's just get over it and use the smarts to consider something that matters, maybe?

For me right now that's New Orleans.

I just had to call ITN earlier to file a complaint on a news report on NO in which they wheeled out a so-called 'economist' who proceeded to deliver the kind of fud we have been seeing tested by the pbmen and other bushbots on these boards.

There's work to do, you know?

I wasn't saying you had reported incorrectly , I was questioning the article and your belief in the accuaracy of the article because it contradicts itself .

It seems a lot of people are "dissapointed" at bands "selling out" so is there something wrong with questioning an article and trying to ascertain whether it is accurate before making selling out allegations ( which you haven't done but the reporting of the thread has led to those allegations being made by others ) . I'm not familiar with the sources youv'e used so I don't see it as unreasonable for me to ask you how reliable that information is !

edit - Just noticed you've answered the accuracy of the source question allready

People know my thoughts on this

however, as Kanye West has been mentioned I just wanted to say what a wonderful artist he is

He really is very principled, not only re his anti-Bush outburst, but also, as some here may know, he has admonished his fellow rappers and people in the hip hop community for gay bashing

http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/08/081805rapper.htm

He's also a man who's not afraid to cry

http://excite.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/kanyes tears as record bosses snubbed him

I love and admire Kanye West

apologies for the derail

as you were :)

Sorry to say I dont know much about the guy. But well done him for seizing the moment to grab his balls and speak out. May he sell many records, and may his words encourage change!
