Ah, a Friday pop quiz... let me think...

David Bowie's character Major Tom (from Space Oddity) came from who?

Somebody dragged this out of nowhere! I forgot to give the answer... yes - it is John Major's dad!

i was going to do xtc actually! but according to the webpage i found, they only had 6 top 40 hits, (oh, my list is top 40 only, but i'm pretty sure it remains accurate anyway*) so there didnt seem to be enough to make it worthwhile. and shamefully low placings as well.

i feel another thread coming along....

closer! stylisticaly, and alphabetically

* on inspection of my book of hit singles, i find they had another three top 75 hits, but all after there top 40 'period'

naah, nowt like enough hits! or number ones...

time for a clue - they were NOT a boy band, tho Garf thinks they were.....

OK

my turn, not exactly pop but here goes....

when Kanye West recently admonished the hip hop community for gaybashing his statement came soon after the surprising announcement in support of gay men from a contraversial african american figure - who?

edited to add that I have to get some work done and this isn't really a pop question so someone else should really have a go
