Ponting 164 from 105 balls!

Good going Gibbs and Drunky, not quite the best ever knock in a ODI, IMO.

IVA Richards 189no 170 balls 21 fours 5 sixes
Total (9 wickets, 55 overs) 272

189 runs. The WI team only scored 272. The opposition only scored 168. The highest score in the team other than Richards was only 26. The team was 98-6 and then 166-9, and Richards scored almost his last century batting with the number 11. The bowling attack he was facing was quite good.

the windies had got a bit of stick before this game as well from the likes of bob willis (some slightly racist IIRC) so the game took on an extra meaning. and with the windies collapse richards' innings became all the more incredible, it was one man taking on eleven. he and his bat made a resounding point to the english, he went ballistic, spraying the ball all over the park and he destroyed them single handedly. that was the beauty of the innings, that doggedness backed up with amazing talent.

What's IIRC, just out of interest?

I was 10 when Richards played that knock and much more into football than cricket, but I've seen the video since - remarkable.

Does anyone know if they are going to produce a DVD of the whole one-day series between South Africa and Australia? Game 4 was a belter too which came down to the wire.

i'm sure someone will produce one. google it in a few weeks. there must be one of at least that game, as unique and remarkable as it was.

He's been there a long time now and a citizen for about 6 years.
