Right, I either heard the story wrong or got it mixed up.
Giuseppe Giannini the former ASRoma player nicknamed 'Il Principe (The Prince) stood as a candidate for Forza Italia (Berlusconi's former party) in Rome hoping to pick up votes from his former fans, he failed miserably.
Volker Ippig (of St Pauli of course)
My mate in Rome has his book, a top bloke by all accounts.
It looks a good book. Never heard of this fella before tonight. You learn something new everyday .
More Di Canio:
Note the "Dux" (Mussolini) tat on his right arm.
It does look rather as if managers wishing to avoid extremists of either stripe should only sign players whose surnames terminate in a consonant.
One of the bravest.
Hope he gets sacked from Swindon what a cunt.
Fair play to the GMB union-
Good old thread about political footballers from the Irish blog, Cedar Lounge Revolution.
According to the CLR thread, Dominique Rocheteau was a member of the French CP during his playing days (his wiki page suggests he was more of a Trotskyist) and Didier Six was a member of LCR. (I wonder if he did paper sales at the car factories when he was at Villa?)
Fair play to Joey Barton for coming out with that.
Isn't Gary Neville supposed to be a bit of a (wet) leftie? He was certainly a PFA rep for years and tried to organise a few player stikes for England IIRC. Hardly a Socrates tho. (He's also building an eco-home, supposed to be the first zero-carbon building in the north west.)
Hes still a cunt.
What was Barton saying? i missed it. Something that i have noticed, is 'lads' suddenly become much more comfortable discussing homosexuality when they have just had their first child born.
Wasn't/Isn't stuart pearce a leftie?
I'd heard he was a racist.
Socialista si grazie.
Well given the level of political astuteness at Klanfield these days.....
Isn't he just a stupid punk rocker?
Really, i thought he was sound, pro-worker. His brother had links to the bnp but as far as i know, Psycho just loved his punk and wasn't that way inclined?
Can't vouch for whether the story is true or not, but I heard that Dessie Noonan punched him in a Manchester nightclub for making racist comments, there are a couple of other posters on here who can maybe confirm or debunk the story.
As it goes I can't ever remember him making racist comments or supporting racists.
Oh you took my dot dot dot the wrong way. I was thinking more like given the level of political astuteness at Klanfield these days he's still the worker's friend.
I actually got it.
Team as opposed to a player, but read something about this lot the other day, seem sound: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1._FC_Union_Berlin Just sold their ground to the supporters: http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,15524651,00.html Apparently Nina Hagen is a big fan and did the club song. Hadn't heard of them before.
Can anyone remember the title of the previous thread on this topic? Was a really good post and link about Lionel Messi.
Googled it but couldn't find anything apart from him suing some dodgy politician for using a pic of him in some campaign literature.
Here ya go:
The documentary aired tonight at 9pm; it's up on iPlayer. Haven't had the time to watch it.
