Police shoot man during eviction

I'm surprised this isn't getting more coverage.

Police shootings are rare enough and there was a housing officer shot in the same area a couple of months back during an eviction, surely this makes it newsworthy, but remarkably little coverage, all it would seem from the same press release.

Metropolitan are clearly a bit unlucky; the one on Strathleven where their housing officer was shot was one of their street properties.

The whole road was closed all day and a huge police presence - my teen son was on one of the buses that was diverted and said he saw loads of police (including armed police buying lunch in McD in Clapham). Residents were told to stay in their homes, and people returning from outside a police cordon were not being allowed back in - my son heard residents saying that a man with a gun was in one of the flats, in the early afternoon.

It sounds like an all day siege.

One way to free up properties for developers.

Kill everyone.

They obviously don't want to advertise the new evictions policy.

The Met police report I read ( it was on my FB will try to find it) said he was shot outside the house and a fire arm was found on the scene. It did not say if he was holding the fire arm when he was shot.

So I wonder why he was shot. The house was surrounded and area cordoned off. They had brought a negotiator in.

This is where the Community Police Consultative Group would have come in handy.
The would have had a public meeting in the Town Hall so the police could answer all these questions.

Just received this re a public meeting about it.

Have a friend who attended this meeting.
The so-called Safer Neighbourhood Board chair was in attendance - as a member of the audience.
The meeting was chaired by Lib Peck (the incident may have been in her ward, or certainly in an adjacent one).
Apparently the shot man's father was at the meeting and the authorities sitting at top table were the Police, Metropolitan Housing, Lambeth Council (in the form of Cllr L Peck) and the somewhat discredited Independent Police Complaints Authority.

Audience members were aghast when the aforementioned IPCA official said they could compel police staff to attend investigatory interviews, but the police officers had the right to remain silent.

With all due respect, I cannot recall that the Community Police Consultative Group for Lambeth had very much effect in establishing any credible answers in the cases of Brian Douglas, Wayne Douglas, Oscar Okoye, Derek Bennett, Ricky Bishop or Sean Rigg, all of whom were killed by Lambeth Police while it was in existence.

In relation to this specific case, it is not clear why the reports that have appeared have not simply named the person who was shot by the police and why it has not yet proved possible to obtain his version of events or any version of events other than that put out by the Metropolitan Police's Public Relations Department. Also, no explanation has been given for the apparent presence of a firearm in the premises.

This incident may well be a source of humour or amusement for some members of the ethnic majority, but many other people will find it disturbing.

Any update on this?
There has been absolutely nothing reported since. Maybe you could try Metropolitan - and if they decline to comment get the contact details for the TA. The TA might know more.

If it's mental health they are probably just counting it as a financial saving. Got my Health Assessment Questionnaire this morning.

Nice one IDS!

34 year-old Nathaniel Brophy, who is not a member of the ethnic majority, was shot three times by police marksmen; once in the right femur, once through the bowel and another in the back.

He required three operations to save his life.
