The OB do use lip readers. There's one woman who's been profoundly deaf since childhood, got a tiptop degree from Oxford and she can lip read through heavy beards, all accents and languages and even when people are side on to her. They found the lock up that some Heathrow robbers were using via her.
AFAIK lip readers can't be used as evidence in court though, but I would be happy to be corrected on this.

Looks like a case of trial by media to me. I am all for catching racists, but whatever happened to innocent till proven guilty?
Some of these people could have thier career, or worse, ruined purely cos the police have got it wrong ... some of them may well be guilty, some of them may be completely innocent. The police make mistakes all the time, anyone remember John Charles de Menezes... an extreme example of the police getting it badly wrong.
In this day and age surely they have more sophisticated ways to track them down than wanted ads in the national press.

he was talking on his mobile and i was sure that he mentioned "it's a dead planet..." as he passed me by, which fits with his asteroid obsession.

The question about whether the chant was racist has been done to death here, but as the great majority of Spurs fans don't believe it to be so, probably including all of the pictured sixteen, it's only fair to acccuse them of homophobia and insensitivity.

not accurate on a couple of fronts : it was all spurs , all Sol Campbell related , it's part of a long running problem re: post Judas - Arsenal situation - as someone who's has , occassionally, sung anti campbell songs till he's blue in the face, i can confirm that this particular song, that's causing the problems here , is totally repulsive and involves HIV and 'swinging from a tree' , in that order .
BUT - it is a complicated issue , and I would definitely argue that the 'swinging from a tree' does not have the implications amongst UK football fans that it would in the deep south USA, look at the youngsters in the photo's -most of them would have no idea of the hostorical resonance -
You simply do not get away with overt racism at Tottenham , home or away - Tottenhams 'firm' has always been amongst the blackest in the country, and being racist wankers is always associated with the belsen celebrating hordes from Chelsea ( who's Headhunter firm have historically been bound up with C18 - check their website ) .
BUT - Spurs's 'firm' msg board has been movin steadily to the right over the last 5 yrs imo, despite the a pretty staunch lefty oppo that appears for the big ( often very dull ) set piece left vs right threads .

I think any racial or homophobic motive will be impossible to prove seeing as the hanging from a tree is a reference to him topping himself and straight people can catch HIV. And they probably know this as well, just a case of putting the willies up football fans so they don't do it again.

same as Vierra one , it's now par for the course for prominent black gooner players - used to happen occassionaly back in the day ( eg : Raphael Mead ) , dissappeared , but now is becomin regular event - needs to be stopped, and tbh , the name and shame photos will probably be effective to some degree - none of it good tho.
I think they might just have some inkling.
