I don't, as a rule, like any of this kind of music, so feel free to ignore what I have to say. This is all from the viewpoint of someone who'd rather listen to some indie kids pretending to be Jonathan Richman.
I've decided to enter a new type of scoring system for this. I'll note down at what exact time I had to turn the song off because it got too annoying/boring. I don't expect to make it all the way through any of these songs.
Boing - Had to fast forward it at 1.50. The "come on brother, let's go down" bit is nice, but the rest didn't realy grab me. Knocked it on the head at 5.08, but I skipped from 1.50 to at least 4.00.
Chaz - Weird one this. Turned it off at 1.37. Definitely very professional, and I think there's potential here, but I found it a bit unpleasant and had to stop it. Like catching Maxi Jazz doing something sordid.
Fruitloop - I find it hard to take drum'n'bass seriously, so mixing in the sci-fi SFX helped keep my attention. I listened to all of this one.
Ninjaboy - Who does the vocals? Is it you? I liked it until the d'n'b stuff came in. Made me laugh out loud once with a funny sound effect in the right hand speaker. Lasted 2.09 out of a possible 5.22.
Fatter - You know the bloke at the start of this? That's me, that is. Pretty funny, though. The actual song should have been nastier. You sound a bit polite. Stopped it at 2.01.
MC5 - Is this the one that starts "I'm so glad I'm alive?" Sorry, didn't really do it for me. Stopped it at 1.18
Atomic Suplex - Brilliant. I love it! Like the little xylophone bits, and the lush feel of the production. And the vocal is excellent. Listened to it all the way through - it's too short! Write the other half of the song and you're getting somewhere. Very good though.
Chooch - I clicked on the link but nothing happened.
Banhoff - This is the same as Fatter right? Same problem - you're presenting a bad bwoy persona but you sound too middle class. Get someone else in to do your vocals. Music was OK. Stopped it after a minute or so.
PK - Nice. Reminds me of Banco De Gaia. But the production is fucked - feels like it's clogged up with cotton wool. Maybe it's the compression thing you were talking about. Weirdly my itunes cut it off after a minute and skipped onto the Pastels. Wicked.
Rutabowa - Make me laugh, but I had to turn it off. Lasted 1.05.
Hiccup - There was no link.
My top three:
Atomic Suplex
PK
Ninjaboy
As I say, I know fuck all about dance music really, so my opinion is worth very little. I did a tune for a laugh once on Cubase and it was about 100 times worse than these, so well done everyone.
