Banhoff Strass - Not least because I'ts got breasts in it innit!
Chooch - Nice textures like

i can't download that zip file, and it woudl be good if this was made sticky and the summer music thread that's sticky now was left to drop...

Yep - I agree.

I can't zip stuff without causing problems for PC users, otherwise I'd do it.

you don't really need the zip right, just go through all the links on page 1:)
i think more people'd vote if it was all in one zip.. i don't have time to go and listen to all the links at work, but i can download the whole zip and listen at home

ok, reviews

boing! : Down to the River
i really love this tune, no shit it's one of the best songs i've heard for ages. beautiful vocals, excellent bass and drumming, i love the tabla sounds over the top,
can't really think of anything i don't like about it tbh

Chazegee : Douse the Fire with Petrol
Haha i really like this one, good lyrics, the silliness translates really well over the guitar and the breakbeat. sounds like a bunch of pillheads on sunday afternoon on their 8th can of stella. definetely put a smile on my face

Fruitloop : Sputnik
love the scatty drums on this and the basssounds. the feel reminds me of the old photek stuff (hidden camera etc) sort of cold and insect like. maybe the bass could roll flow together a bit more, and it's very short but i really like it. trippy as fuck

Fatter Faction/Dirtysanta : LOUD!
more rock n roll breaky stuff:cool: the samples on this are class "noisy neighbours..." really like the bleepy synth and the way it gets more and more twisted on this and the stompy beat. i do think it has too many breakdowns but another quality effort all round

MC5 : The Sun it Shines
hehe nice 80s manchester feel, really like the jangly guitar and the bass track. this is the 2nd time i've listened to this and i like it a lot better. very authentic with the moody vocals. i like the lead as well.

The Aid s/ATOMIC SUPLEX : Cowboy Stu
always good to catch the AIDs..... nice production values. am a bit lost as to what to say :D i want to know why he got the award, maybe the story should develop a bit more. i really like these sort of tunes, don't know where i'd listen to it but.....

Chooch : Z is for...
i really like this. that distorted bass drum is just fucking ace. and i don't know if you do it on purpose, i love the chords and notes as well, they are all ki nd of a bit off. the whole production is just sort of off beam, sounds like the soundtrack to one of those fucked up art films. i wish it went on for longer tho, it's the sort of tune that really needs to develop over 5 minutes imo

Bahnoff Strasser
cheeky fucker putting 2 tunes in :D. i like this one better, a lot more rock n roll, just straight up a bassline, drumbeat and some synths. the synth work is wicked on these tunes i love how they steadily get more twisted, fat bassline as well. but maybe a bit of variation in the beats and bassline....like the video as well

Pk/Pandakiller : Sin City
haven't heard any for literally years. this really reminds me of being off my tits in fucking freezing warehouses. you've definitely got the vibe right. sort of trippy pulsing techno. the synths are excellent on this, but the snare has too much reverb on and it kind of overpowers everything. i really like it tho overall. that beat will be going on forever somewhere in the world

Danilonglegs/rutabowa : My Friend Todd
hahaha this does my head in. pks tune reminded me of being 19, this reminds me of being 16, getting pissed and farting about with guitars and talking shit. I love the fact it's got beatbox on it :D a thoroughly proffesional piece of work

hiccup : hiccup hop
love the reggae sound on this. nice mellow beat and cool little guitar and atmospheric samples. good shit, reminds me of sitting about in the summer drinking vodka and orange listening to those chillout CDs you used to get. maybe needs a bigger difference betwen the two sections, but that's just my taste i spose. love that filtered drum loop halfway through as well

fucking hell, it is worth doing this, but reviewing tracks makes me want to drink....

my votes

1. Boing - down to the river
2 chooch - z is for...
3. fruitloop - sputnik

Clean you ears out dinkinator. I won the award for being the best timetraveling cowboy from the 1980s that there is.

C'mon there is no real story. They don't like the horse because it doesn't have a name. I name the horse, they are happy, I win an award on a separate unrelated matter. The end.

if there was a good story it might have got my vote...

Nice one for the multi-review Ninj.

;)

It was a rush job to get it in for this comp, hence the dodgy compressor settings/snare job - but...

"reminds me of being off my tits in fucking freezing warehouses"

... that'll do for me.

:D

Cheers. Aye. Distortion is deliberate. I always bitcrunch my drums and then put them through a mangle that will make them go grrrrk.
And yep, it's too short. Laziness is not a quality that makes for musical achievement. This will be 5 minutes long sometime in 2009. When it's on the soundtrack of some old bollocks that's part-funded by the Lithuanian Arts Council.

Good work on the reviews. Sterling effort.

Quick reviews, so excuse the bluntness of it :p
.

boing! : Down to the River

Took an age to get going. Reggae bass, swirly bit and a delayed female vocal, Was this sampled and chopped from the Cubase demo song by any chance? Didn't take me anywhere.

Chazegee : Douse the Fire with Petrol

immolating rant.

Fruitloop : Sputnik

Blip, blip comrade!

Kid hideous/ninjaboy : Pirates

Bang, bang, clash and a tuba sound. Mental raggamuffin that never ends. :D

Fatter Faction/Dirtysanta : LOUD!

Geezer music. reminded me of The Shamen crossed with Chumbawamba and The Prodigy.

The Aids/ATOMIC SUPLEX : Cowboy Stu

Yeehaw!

Chooch : Z is for...

Lo Fi spaghetti.

Bahnoff Strasser

More geezer.

Pk/Pandakiller : Sin City

Interesting spacey music.

Danilonglegs/rutabowa : My Friend Todd

Appalling sound quality, but considering it was recorded in a kitchen I'll let you off. The jam sounded good fun btw. ;)

the vocal samples from the O Brother Where Art Thou Soundtrack

i can't really vote until there's a zip file... and also it woudl be better if this was a sticky, rather than the summer competition being sticky.
