One a more serious note I would recommend goodbye lenin....... a german film thats been seriously overlooked by film buffs.

Goodbye Lenin is ace.

Personally I'm also quite fond of the Iron Giant. It's directed by Brad Bird (of Incredibles and Ratatouille fame) and was massively let down by a lack of marketing.

At the moment my escapism also tends to involve retreats into the Batman / Justice League animated series produced by Bruce Timm, but suspect they're not for everyone.
