Please dissuade me from buying this...

So, er... don't. It's red, it's Italian, what good could ever come of it?

One of the most beautiful things in the world (imho of course) has been given life through the combination of the elements you mention.

I give you one of the top 3 most beautiful vehicles ever produced, the Ferrari 250 GTO:

So expensive now that even a lottery winner would have to think hard before putting down the asking price.

I asked myself the same question when I bought one of these for Christmas

:D

and the Alfa Nord cars can be very reliable if you get a good 'un. I had a GTV6 that was a great little car...wasn't red though

Sweet, do you know of the old Duke Monster 900 they sold over here (dunno if its the same in the US)?

Wheelbase on yours looks a bit longer (from that pic) than the M900 - it was a nightmare to keep that front wheel on the ground - wasn't even my bike, I had a CBR900 at the time and swapped for a few miles with my mate. Bloody crazy massive handle-barred thing!!:D

Foke rake looks steep though, does it feel like it tips into corners?

I suspect it's alla bit toned down....it's described as the ideal bike for girls and beginners....having only ridden a Ninja250 for a few weeks that was what I was looking for

Looks very nice although I must admit to being more of a "plastic fantastic" fan than naked bikes.

I can understand how it might be a good lasses bike due to a low seat height - same as the unfaired Dukes this side of the pond but what size is the engine? I'm guessing 600?

I had a Suzuki RGV250 when I first passed my test. Fucking thing belonged in an asylum somewhere, I'm quite surprised I'm still around writing this. It had no power below about 9000 revs, went ballistic from 9001-9499 and had nothing after - delivery like a light switch, just either on or off.

Great bike in retrospect :D

696cc 91hp

this is my mid-life crisis instigated move from push bikes so i'm not an expert on the handling. Living in Houston it takes you a long time to get far enough out of town to find curvy roads....hopefully this weekend I'll get out to the pine forests NE of the city

anyway, tell us about the test drive next week.

That Alpha is a banger.

Its a really old car with none of the mod cons of modern cars. It might look OK but unless your comfortable with constant spend spend spend forget it.

Personally I think it looks too much like an old BMW for comfort.

That Alpha is a Classic.

Fixed it for ya 'ol Sunshine :D

Am looking for a weekend car in the classic vein - I mostly use the tube for going to work so am looking for something to sit alongside my other toys for Sat/Sun use.

Just seen this, my head is screaming "NO!!! It's an Alfa, it will cost you a fortune".

My heart is saying.... "WANT!!!!!!!"

Your thoughts please.

I'd hang on for a good 1750 or 2000 GTV rather than a Junior. My reason is purely that I've driven them, but not the Junior. I know that is a completely stupid and irrational reason, but they are among the most comfortable cars I've driven.

Annnnnd....

They came out at very similar times, someone ripped off the other. Look at the tail slope, the side window shapes, the indicator positons.

Its an Italian Ford Escort.

Must admit, I'd take the Escort over the Alfa any day. Italian cars are all rust, breakdowns and expense.

I would, however, have a Lancia Delta Integrale tomorrow if I could afford it. This thread has got me browsing pistonheads and ...

WANT!!!

If it's in good nick, you should advertise it in The Golf, or somewhere. Mine's a 1990, and isn't remotely cheap to run (cos I can't stop fiddling with it) :D

dont touch an alfa - ££££ to keep going & you will NEED a garage to keep the rot box in one piece. A TVR of that vintage is basically an esoteric kit car & you will know it

A good Mk Golf GTI 1800 - and most of the ones left now are good - is an absolute hoot to drive - cheap insurance also

ditto a good 911 from the mid 80's will scare you shitless on a regular basis - its more like a living thing than a car when you get used to it - my Carerra 88 cost £250 Fully comp insurance, parked on the street in LOndon with guaranteed value - good ones are bulletprrof is you choose well

Seriously? Is there a magazine called The Golf?

My car isn't in particularly good nick externally, but it has really low mileage, and has got lots of new bits which cost me a fortune in the last year etc. etc.

I am going to google for a mag called The Golf :D

Go for it. :)

Also that TVR Vixen looks very nice. Mine's running pretty well theses days after 11 years of ownership and £5k spent on it last year.

I drove one for a bit. I liked the bonnet bulge-looked pretty cool.
Fast with good acceleration .
VERY interesting round corners :D

How about a good Triumph Stag?

If it had a bonnet bulge then it was probably a 3 litre straight 6 MGC. Not the best handling car ever made. :D

Loved my old V8 MG, made better with the Holley carb.

Your thoughts please.

It'll rust.

It'll break down.

It'll cost you a fortune.

It'll be possibly the best car you'll ever own.

Go for it

I have owned a few cars. They have ranged from 1982 Datsuns to exotics.
I now run around in a 1999 Nissan Maxima (138.000 miles) and ride a Honda Blackbird that has all the get up and go that I need.
Two months ago I bought a Honda S2000 (2 seater) with a supercharger.
Who knows about these things? I say go for it, but know what you are getting into as far as cost and availability of parts...
Did I mention that one of the cars that I owned was a Fiat X19?;)
Good luck!
