Randy & Earl’s Gumbo

Here’s a mix of fine New Orleans stuff for y’all to enjoy. The initial idea was to base it on Dr John’s ‘Gumbo’ when he first turned from his psychedelic voodoo swamp thang and paid homage to the stuff that inspired him. It’s a fine album y’all should go buy it (The album contains the Dr’s versions of tracks 2,3,4,12,13,14 and 15).

Part of that still remains, there’s nothing actually from ‘Gumbo’ but there is the title track of Goin’ Back To New Orleans a later album in similar vein and, for my money, even better in execution. but it wasn’t doing the whole thing so, in the spirit of cooking gumbo, in went a string of Allen Toussaint penned gems (those from ‘Holy Cow’ to ‘Over You’) and a second side with some of the fine brass band and Mardi Gras Indian type stuff that was comin’ to the festival too. click on the hot sauce (yes friends, that’s Crystal hot sauce - superior in taste to sponsors Tabasco, fine though it is) for side A and the Big Chief for side B (or the titles for alt. links)
