playing "enhanced" CDs on your PC

i have quite a few CDs that have all sorts of daft "bonus" stuff and extras on that you gain access to when you bung them in your PCs drink's holder.

but even though it's fun to watch girls aloud videos or get exclusive sugababes content, it's no fun to not be able to just play the fucking songs fron the CD proper on your PC!! we don't have a hi-fi or anything in our bedroom, as we use the PC for all our entertainment needs, so these enhanced CDs are proving to be a nuisance.

does anyone know of any programmes that you can download that can "crack" the software on such discs, leaving you able to play them as if there were just regular audio discs bunged in to a PC?

the first person to "amusingly" recommend that i listen to "proper" music instead of pop to stop me havng this problem is the first person to prove themelf to be an utter, utter cunt :)

There should be an option not to autorun cds when they are put in. Disable this and then they should act just like music cds.

i've done that, but even when i try to open up the files on a CD with windows media player (for example) by browsing the D drive, the seperate music tracks are nowhere to be seen.

it's a right swizz.

i don't even want to copy them or anything, i just want to listen to the damn things.

  1. Download IsoBuster. Freeware version will do fine.
  2. Create a Folder for the Audio Tracks
  3. Open the Copy-Protected CD with IsoBuster

You'll have to hold down the shift key to block the Windows ‘autorun’ feature. The reason this is necessary is that some DRM CDs fuck your Windows CD drivers, which then fucks up normal CDs. You should disable autorun altogether IMO.

  4. Select Session 1 and in side you should see all the Tracks.
  5. Highlight all the tracks, right click and select Extract Objects
  6. Choose the destination you created earlier :)
  7. Open up your favourite CD burning software
  8. Select create Audio CD
  9. Burn the Audio Tracks onto a Blank CD.
  10. All done.
  11. Burn copies for you mates
  12. Return unusable CD to the shop.

There is a comprehensive list of bad DRM CD's here so you don't make the mistake again and if for any reason ISO buster doesn't work try Audiograbber and you can read Mark Russinovich from sysinternals ripping into sony DRM here.

Absolutely no disrespect to anyone who codes DRM for Sony, I think you're a goddess ;)

:D aw, i haven't heard anyone say that for ages!

not since i used to read the Beano actually...... :p

i've got an enhanced Missy cd. it's got nearly all her vids on and i love it  but i know what you mean milesy - Rain is on the dvd/cd and i can't find it on any other cd which is a pain in the backside.

right - they've all been saved as WAVs - anyone recommend a good free-shareware programme for converting to MP3? :)

follow Kameron's advice, it's a piece of piss, even a fool could do it.

maybe you'll need Unix to help you :(

CDex. It would have done the whole thing at once, but it will convert WAVs. I advise setting the encoding to variable bitrate.
