Playing a computer 'live' (techno)

Q for all: If I stood up and played a bassline on a Guitar Hero controller, would you laugh or clap or cry?

There are people out there doing incredibly cool things with the Wii remotes - there's an article in last months Sound On Sound with loads of links, I'll dig it out when I've got a moment.

I just learned something. Thanks boycey

no prob, a mate of mine has done a bit. he has a muppet babies keyboard and a talk and learn maths game that make some utterly filthy noises. the bends on the muppet keyboard use 3 bolts that utilise the conductivity of your fingers to distort the sounds, if you lick your fingers and mash them into the bolts it has some pretty wild effects.

check what they did to furby!

there's a box specifically designed to use with ableton which gives you about 150 buttons to press check out DJ Blipmat

Want much?

is it just me ? or is mixing 2 records infinitely more sexy, i've sat through hours of tedious blokes staring at their laptops. For every Aaron Spectre Surgeon & Ronin who show you how to do it there are hundreds of dullards.

rather!

that's way more than I want to spend right now. this is going to be belt and braces :)

Im designing a controller to use with Ableton. You can do it with this stuff. Some of it is absolutly mental.

The following pictures were made by people using the midibox stuff

Or, like me, you could just use hardware. It doesn't hardly ever crash, it sounds better and is far more fun to use.

and costs more :D

Not necessarily, There's a plethora of old kit out there that can be bought very cheap these days, that's one advantage of the computer music revolution ;)

Plus it all depends on whether you are going to be paying for your software or not!

Can plug it into Reason and make the tremelo arm mash the filter around
Reckon pentatonic scale on the 5 fret keys, then have the strum bar toggle effects or LFO freq.

If you could get it to work like that I'd say you were a genius and it'd be awesome...

mate of mine does live shows straight off reason, using laptops and a standard dj mixer to mix between them. I've done 2 decks, 2 laptops mixes with him before at parties and stuff, with 2 mixers to let us both hear what we're cueing up.

he just beat matches manually btw, has been using reason solidly since it was first released, and has fuckloads of quality tracks laid down for playing live - think his record was about an 8 hour set. That's how to use reason to play live IMO.
